🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Remove the Interior Mirror Trim Panel

• Use a nylon interior trim removal tool to carefully pry the triangular trim panel away from the upper-front corner of the door.
• This piece is sometimes called the “sail panel,” meaning the small triangular cover directly opposite the mirror.
• Begin at the upper edge and pull inward gently to release its retaining clips.
• Lift the panel away without twisting it. Use a small flat-blade screwdriver only if a clip needs gentle release.
• Cover the screwdriver tip with masking tape.

Step 2: Disconnect the Mirror Wiring

• Press the locking tab on the mirror electrical connector with your fingers, then pull the connector halves apart.
• If the lock is difficult to reach, use a small flat-blade screwdriver to depress it gently.
• Pull on the connector housing, not the wires.
• Release the wiring harness from any retaining clip by hand.

Step 3: Remove the Mirror Mounting Nuts

• Hold the outside mirror firmly with one hand or have a helper support it.
• Use a 10mm socket, 3-inch extension, and 1/4-inch drive ratchet to remove the three mirror mounting nuts.
• Place each nut in a magnetic parts tray so it cannot fall inside the door.
• Keep supporting the mirror after removing the final nut.

Step 4: Remove the Old Mirror Assembly

• From outside the door, pull the mirror base straight away from the sheet metal.
• Guide the electrical connector and wiring through the door opening by hand.
• If the gasket sticks, work around it with a nylon interior trim removal tool. Do not lever against the paint.
• Clean the mounting surface with a clean cloth. Do not enlarge or modify the mounting holes.

Step 5: Prepare the Replacement Mirror

• Inspect the replacement assembly and verify that all three mounting studs line up with the original mirror.
• Verify that the electrical connector has the same shape and number of terminals.
• Confirm that the foam or rubber mounting gasket sits flat against the mirror base.
• Transfer the original gasket by hand only if the replacement assembly does not include one and the original is undamaged.

Step 6: Install the Replacement Mirror

• Guide the replacement mirror’s wiring connector through the opening in the door by hand.
• Align all three studs with the mounting holes and hold the mirror base flat against the door.
• Start all three nuts by hand to prevent crossed threads.
• Use a 10mm socket and 1/4-inch drive ratchet to tighten the nuts evenly in several passes.
• Use a torque wrench rated 5-25 Nm with the 10mm socket to tighten each nut to 8.8 Nm (78 in-lbs).
• Do not overtighten the nuts; excessive force can crack the mirror base or distort the door.

Step 7: Connect and Secure the Wiring

• Push the mirror electrical connectors together by hand until the locking tab clicks.
• Gently tug the connector housing to verify that it is locked.
• Secure the harness in its original retaining clip by hand so it cannot rattle or become pinched.

Step 8: Reinstall the Interior Trim Panel

• Inspect the trim-panel clips and replace any bent or broken clips by hand.
• Align the triangular panel with its mounting points.
• Press directly over each clip with your palm until it snaps into place.
• Use the nylon interior trim removal tool to check that no edge is trapped or raised.

Step 9: Repeat on the Opposite Side

• Use the same tools and procedure if replacing the other mirror.
• Keep the driver-side and passenger-side assemblies separate because they are not interchangeable.
• Torque the opposite mirror’s three nuts to 8.8 Nm (78 in-lbs).

Step 10: Reconnect the Battery

• Place the negative battery cable fully onto the negative battery post.
• Use a 10mm socket and torque wrench to tighten the terminal nut to 5.0 Nm (44 in-lbs).
• Remove the masking tape from the door by hand.

• ✅ Switch the ignition on and operate the mirror adjustment control through all directions.
• ✅ If equipped, check mirror heating with the rear-window defogger switched on.
• ✅ If equipped, verify the mirror turn signal and blind-spot warning indicator.
