🔧 Rear Turn Signal Bulb - Replacement

Replacing the rear turn signal bulb on your Camry is a straightforward job. You’ll access the bulb from inside the trunk by removing the tail lamp access covers, then twist out the bulb socket and install the new bulb.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.5-1 hour

⚠️ Safety & Precautions

  • Turn the lights off and remove the key before starting.
  • Let the tail lamp cool down if it has been on recently.
  • Handle the new bulb with clean gloves or a clean cloth. Finger oils can shorten bulb life.
  • Do not touch hot bulb glass with bare hands.
  • No battery disconnect is required for this repair.

🔧 Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Trim panel tool
  • Small flat-blade screwdriver
  • Gloves
  • Safety glasses
  • Flashlight

🔩 Required Parts

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:

  • Rear turn signal bulb - Qty: 2

📋 Before You Begin

  • Park on a level surface and set the parking brake.
  • Open the trunk for access to the rear lamp housings.
  • If one side is out, it is smart to replace both rear turn signal bulbs at the same time.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Open the trunk and clear access

  • Open the trunk fully and move any cargo away from the left and right rear lamp areas.
  • Use a flashlight to locate the access covers behind each tail lamp.

Step 2: Remove the tail lamp access cover

  • Use a trim panel tool or small flat-blade screwdriver to gently pop off the rear lamp access cover inside the trunk.
  • Work slowly so you do not crack the plastic cover.
  • Practical tip: Pry at the edge, not the center.

Step 3: Remove the bulb socket

  • Reach into the opening and find the rear turn signal bulb socket.
  • Twist the socket counterclockwise by hand to unlock it, then pull it straight out.
  • If it is stuck, use a gloved hand for better grip.

Step 4: Replace the bulb

  • Pull the old bulb straight out of the socket.
  • Install the new rear turn signal bulb by pushing it straight into the socket until fully seated.
  • Make sure the bulb is fully locked in place before reinstalling it.
  • Do not twist the bulb glass.

Step 5: Reinstall the socket

  • Align the socket with the housing opening.
  • Push it in fully, then twist it clockwise by hand until it locks.
  • It should feel snug and seated evenly.

Step 6: Test the new bulb

  • Turn the ignition on and activate the turn signal for the side you repaired.
  • Check that the rear signal flashes normally.
  • If it does not work, remove the socket again and confirm the bulb is seated correctly.

Step 7: Reinstall the access cover

  • Snap the rear lamp access cover back into place by hand.
  • Make sure it sits flush so cargo does not catch it.

✅ After Repair

  • Check both rear turn signals, brake lights, and tail lights.
  • Verify the instrument cluster does not show a bulb-out warning.
  • If the lamp still does not work, inspect the socket for corrosion or a bent terminal.
