🔧 Forte - Rear Turn Signal Bulb Replacement

Your Forte’s rear turn signal bulbs are inside the tail light housings and are accessed from inside the trunk. You’ll remove a small trunk liner cover, twist out the bulb socket, and swap the bulb.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.3-0.7 hours

⚠️ Safety & Precautions

  • ⚠️ Turn the lights OFF and remove the key before starting.
  • ⚠️ Let bulbs cool first—incandescent bulbs can burn you.
  • ⚠️ Wear gloves and avoid touching the glass bulb with bare fingers (skin oils can shorten bulb life).
  • ⚠️ No battery disconnect is required for this repair.

🔧 Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Safety glasses
  • Nitrile gloves
  • Flashlight
  • Plastic trim removal tool (specialty)

🔩 Required Parts

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:

  • Rear turn signal bulb (amber, 7440A/7440NA equivalent) - Qty: 2

Assumption: Most Forte sedans use an amber 7440-type rear turn bulb.

📋 Before You Begin

  • 🅿️ Park on level ground and set the parking brake.
  • 🧰 Open the trunk and remove any cargo so you can work comfortably.
  • 💡 Make sure the turn signals and hazards are switched OFF.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Access the tail lamp service area

  • Open the trunk and pick the side you’re replacing first (left or right).
  • Use a flashlight to find the small access cover in the trunk liner behind the tail light.
  • Use a plastic trim removal tool (specialty) to gently pop open/remove the access cover (a trim tool is a plastic pry tool that helps you remove panels without damaging them).

Step 2: Remove the rear turn signal bulb socket

  • Look for the socket that corresponds to the turn signal (typically the amber/turn position in the tail lamp).
  • Grip the socket firmly and rotate it counterclockwise about 1/4 turn to unlock it, then pull it straight out.

Step 3: Replace the bulb

  • Put on nitrile gloves.
  • Pull the old bulb straight out of the socket.
  • Push the new rear turn signal bulb (amber) straight into the socket until it’s fully seated.
  • Tip: If it feels loose, reseat it.

Step 4: Reinstall the socket and trunk liner cover

  • Insert the socket back into the tail lamp housing, making sure the tabs line up.
  • Rotate the socket clockwise about 1/4 turn until it locks.
  • Reinstall the trunk liner access cover—press it in until it clicks/feels secure.

Step 5: Repeat on the other side

  • Repeat Steps 1–4 on the opposite tail light so both bulbs match brightness and color.

✅ After Repair

  • ✅ Turn the ignition to ON and test both rear turn signals.
  • ✅ Turn on the hazards and walk around the car to confirm both rear turn signals blink evenly.
  • ✅ If a bulb doesn’t work, remove it and reseat it fully in the socket.
