šŸ”§ Accord - Rear Turn Signal Bulb Replacement

Your Accord’s rear turn signal bulbs sit in the tail lamp housing and are accessed from inside the trunk. You’ll remove a small trunk liner panel, twist out the bulb socket, swap the bulb, then test the signals.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.5-1.0 hours

Assumption: Sedan tail lamps use a 7440 amber rear turn signal bulb.

āš ļø Safety & Precautions

  • āš ļø Let the tail lamp area cool before touching bulbs.
  • āš ļø Wear gloves—skin oils can shorten bulb life.
  • āš ļø Keep the ignition OFF while removing/installing bulbs.

šŸ”§ Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Nitrile gloves
  • Safety glasses
  • Trim removal tool (plastic)
  • Phillips #2 screwdriver
  • Flashlight

šŸ”© Required Parts

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:

  • Rear turn signal bulb (7440 amber) - Qty: 2 Replace in pairs

šŸ“‹ Before You Begin

  • Park on level ground and set the parking brake.
  • Open the trunk and remove any cargo so you can work comfortably.
  • Have a flashlight ready so you can clearly see the bulb sockets.

šŸ”Ø Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Access the rear of the tail lamp

  • Open the trunk and locate the trunk liner behind the tail lamp on the side you’re working on.
  • Use a trim removal tool (plastic) to pop out the plastic push clips holding the liner access flap.
  • If your liner uses screws instead of clips, remove them with a Phillips #2 screwdriver.

Step 2: Find the turn signal bulb socket

  • Use a flashlight to locate the bulb sockets on the back of the tail lamp assembly.
  • Identify the turn signal socket (typically the socket that points more toward the outer side of the car).
  • If unsure, turn on hazards to confirm.

Step 3: Remove the bulb socket

  • Put on nitrile gloves and safety glasses.
  • Grip the turn signal socket and twist it counterclockwise about 1/4 turn by hand, then pull it straight out.

Step 4: Replace the bulb

  • Pull the old bulb straight out of the socket by hand (it’s a push-in bulb).
  • Push the new rear turn signal bulb (7440 amber) straight into the socket until fully seated.
  • Don’t touch the glass—use gloves.

Step 5: Reinstall the socket

  • Insert the socket back into the tail lamp opening.
  • Twist clockwise by hand about 1/4 turn until it locks in place (snug, not forced).

Step 6: Test the turn signals

  • Turn the ignition to ON and switch on the left/right turn signal (or hazards).
  • Walk behind the car and confirm the repaired side flashes normally.
  • If it doesn’t light: remove the socket again and re-seat the bulb firmly.

Step 7: Reinstall the trunk liner

  • Reposition the trunk liner/access flap.
  • Reinstall push clips by pressing them in by hand, or reinstall screws using a Phillips #2 screwdriver.

āœ… After Repair

  • Verify both left and right rear turn signals flash at a normal speed.
  • Check hazards and brake lights to ensure nothing else was disturbed.
  • If the signal flashes fast, one bulb is still out—recheck the other side.
