š Before You Begin
- Park on level ground and set the parking brake.
- Open the trunk and remove any cargo so you can work comfortably.
- Have a flashlight ready so you can clearly see the bulb sockets.
šØ Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Access the rear of the tail lamp
- Open the trunk and locate the trunk liner behind the tail lamp on the side youāre working on.
- Use a trim removal tool (plastic) to pop out the plastic push clips holding the liner access flap.
- If your liner uses screws instead of clips, remove them with a Phillips #2 screwdriver.
Step 2: Find the turn signal bulb socket
- Use a flashlight to locate the bulb sockets on the back of the tail lamp assembly.
- Identify the turn signal socket (typically the socket that points more toward the outer side of the car).
- If unsure, turn on hazards to confirm.
Step 3: Remove the bulb socket
- Put on nitrile gloves and safety glasses.
- Grip the turn signal socket and twist it counterclockwise about 1/4 turn by hand, then pull it straight out.
Step 4: Replace the bulb
- Pull the old bulb straight out of the socket by hand (itās a push-in bulb).
- Push the new rear turn signal bulb (7440 amber) straight into the socket until fully seated.
- Donāt touch the glassāuse gloves.
Step 5: Reinstall the socket
- Insert the socket back into the tail lamp opening.
- Twist clockwise by hand about 1/4 turn until it locks in place (snug, not forced).
Step 6: Test the turn signals
- Turn the ignition to ON and switch on the left/right turn signal (or hazards).
- Walk behind the car and confirm the repaired side flashes normally.
- If it doesnāt light: remove the socket again and re-seat the bulb firmly.
Step 7: Reinstall the trunk liner
- Reposition the trunk liner/access flap.
- Reinstall push clips by pressing them in by hand, or reinstall screws using a Phillips #2 screwdriver.
ā After Repair
- Verify both left and right rear turn signals flash at a normal speed.
- Check hazards and brake lights to ensure nothing else was disturbed.
- If the signal flashes fast, one bulb is still outārecheck the other side.
