• 🅿️ Set the parking brake and chock the rear wheels with wheel chocks.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Raise And Secure The Truck

• Use a floor jack (rated 3-ton minimum) to lift your F-150.
• Place jack stands (rated 3-ton minimum) under solid frame points.
• Make sure the truck sits level front-to-rear and side-to-side.
• Gently shake the truck by hand to confirm it is stable before going underneath.

Step 2: Remove The Underbody Shield If Equipped

• Use an 8mm socket, 10mm socket, and 3/8-inch drive ratchet to remove the fasteners from the front underbody shield if it blocks access.
• Set the shield and fasteners aside in order.
• Tip: Take a photo before removing bolts.

Step 3: Locate The Transmission Pan

• Use safety glasses and nitrile gloves before going under the truck.
• Find the transmission pan behind the engine oil pan.
• Position a drain pan (10-quart minimum) under the transmission pan drain plug.

Step 4: Drain The Old Fluid

• Use the correct socket from the 13mm socket set position if applicable to loosen the transmission pan drain plug.
• Remove the plug carefully by hand while holding the drain pan (10-quart minimum) underneath.
• Let the fluid drain until it slows to a drip.
• Inspect the old fluid for heavy metal debris or a burnt smell.

Step 5: Remove The Transmission Pan

• Use an 8mm socket, 3/8-inch drive ratchet, and 3/8-inch drive extension to remove the transmission pan bolts.
• Leave two bolts loosely threaded at one end while the remaining fluid drains.
• Support the pan by hand, then remove the last bolts with the 8mm socket.
• Lower the pan carefully into the drain pan (10-quart minimum).

Step 6: Replace The Transmission Filter

• Use your gloved hand to pull the old transmission filter straight down from the valve body.
• The valve body is the hydraulic control unit inside the transmission.
• Make sure the old filter seal comes out with the filter.
• Push the new transmission filter firmly into place by hand.

Step 7: Clean The Pan And Gasket Surface

• Use rags to wipe the pan clean.
• Use a small flat-blade screwdriver only if needed to gently lift the old gasket from the pan.
• Do not gouge or scratch the sealing surface.
• Clean the pan magnet and reinstall it in the same location.

Step 8: Reinstall The Transmission Pan

• Place the new transmission pan gasket on the pan.
• Raise the pan into position by hand.
• Start all pan bolts by hand first to avoid cross-threading.
• Use an 8mm socket, 3/8-inch drive extension, and inch-pound torque wrench to tighten the pan bolts evenly in a crisscross pattern.
• Torque to 12 Nm (106 in-lbs).

Step 9: Reinstall The Drain Plug

• Install the new transmission drain plug seal on the drain plug.
• Use a 13mm socket and foot-pound torque wrench to tighten the drain plug.
• Torque to 20 Nm (15 ft-lbs).

Step 10: Add New Transmission Fluid

• Locate the transmission fill plug on the side of the transmission case.
• Use the correct socket from your listed tools to remove the fill plug.
• Install a fluid transfer pump (specialty) into the fluid bottle.
• A fluid transfer pump moves fluid from the bottle into the transmission when there is no easy top-side dipstick tube.
• Pump automatic transmission fluid meeting Ford MERCON ULV specification into the fill opening until fluid just begins to run back out.
• Install the fill plug finger-tight for now.

Step 11: Warm The Fluid And Cycle The Gears

• Start the engine while keeping the truck level and safely supported.
• Use the scan tool with transmission temperature data (specialty) to monitor transmission fluid temperature.
• With your foot firmly on the brake, move the shifter slowly through Park, Reverse, Neutral, Drive, then back to Park.
• Pause 3 seconds in each position.
• Keep the engine idling during the level check.

Step 12: Set The Final Fluid Level

• When transmission fluid temperature is approximately 96-107°F (36-42°C), remove the fill plug using the correct socket from your listed tools.
• Use the fluid transfer pump (specialty) to add fluid until a thin stream runs from the fill opening.
• Wait until the stream becomes a slow drip.
• Install the new transmission fill plug seal.
• Reinstall the fill plug and tighten it with the correct socket and foot-pound torque wrench.
• Torque to 35 Nm (26 ft-lbs).

Step 13: Reinstall The Underbody Shield

• Use an 8mm socket, 10mm socket, and 3/8-inch drive ratchet to reinstall the underbody shield if removed.
• Tighten the shield fasteners snugly.
• Torque to 7 Nm (62 in-lbs) for small shield fasteners.

Step 14: Lower The Truck

• Use the floor jack (rated 3-ton minimum) to lift slightly off the stands.
• Remove the jack stands (rated 3-ton minimum).
• Lower your F-150 slowly to the ground.
