- Rear turn signal bulb (7440A amber) - Qty: 1 (replace in pairs recommended)
š Before You Begin
- Park on level ground and set the parking brake.
- Open the trunk and remove any cargo so you can reach the trunk side liner.
- If youāre not sure which bulb you need: clear turn-signal lens usually uses an amber bulb (7440A), while an amber lens often uses a clear bulb (7440).
šØ Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Access the tail lamp area from inside the trunk
- Use a flashlight to find the trunk side liner behind the tail lamp on the side youāre replacing.
- Use a plastic trim tool to pop open the small access cover (or gently pull the liner back if thereās no cover).
- If a clip is stubborn, use a small flathead screwdriver carefully to start it. Go slow to avoid breaking clips.
Step 2: Identify the rear turn signal bulb socket
- Use a flashlight and look for the bulb socket that lines up with the turn signal section of the tail lamp (the amber/turn area of the lens).
- The socket has a wiring connector going into it.
Step 3: Remove the bulb socket
- Put on nitrile gloves.
- Grip the socket firmly and twist it about a quarter-turn counterclockwise by hand (no tool usually needed).
- Pull the socket straight out of the tail lamp.
Step 4: Remove the old bulb
- Hold the socket in one hand and pull the bulb straight out with the other (itās a āwedgeā bulbāno twisting).
- If itās stuck, wiggle it gently while pulling. Donāt crush the glass.
Step 5: Install the new bulb
- Install the new bulb by pushing it straight into the socket until fully seated.
- Use 7440 or 7440A amber depending on your lens color (amber bulb for clear lens).
- Keep nitrile gloves on so you donāt touch the bulb glass.
Step 6: Reinstall the socket and close up the trunk liner
- Insert the socket back into the tail lamp, making sure it seats evenly.
- Twist clockwise by hand to lock it (about a quarter-turn) until snug.
- Reinstall the access cover/liner using the plastic trim tool if needed to snap clips back in.
ā After Repair
- Turn the ignition to ON and test the rear turn signal on that side.
- Verify the flash rate is normal (very fast flashing usually means a bulb isnāt working or isnāt seated).
- Test hazards too, then repeat the procedure on the other side if replacing in pairs.
