🔧 Accord - Rear Turn Signal Bulb Replacement
The rear turn signal bulbs sit inside the tail light housings and can be replaced from inside the trunk. You’ll remove a small trunk liner access cover, twist the bulb socket out, and swap the bulb.
Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.3-0.7 hours
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- 🔸 Park on level ground, engine off, and set the parking brake.
- 🔸 Let the bulbs cool before touching; they can be hot.
- 🔸 Avoid touching the new bulb’s glass with bare fingers (skin oils can shorten bulb life).
- 🔸 Battery disconnect is not required for this bulb swap.

đź“‹ Before You Begin
- Open the trunk and remove any cargo so you can work comfortably.
- Have your flashlight ready so you can see the bulb sockets clearly.
- Tip: Replace both sides if one looks dark.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Access the tail light area from the trunk
- Open the trunk and locate the trunk liner behind the tail light on the side you’re replacing.
- If there’s an access flap/cover, peel it back by hand.
- If clips are holding the liner, use a trim clip removal tool to pop the clip out.
- If a clip is stubborn, gently pry the center up using a small flathead screwdriver, then remove the clip with the trim clip removal tool.
Step 2: Identify the rear turn signal bulb socket
- Use a flashlight to find the bulb sockets on the back of the tail light housing.
- The turn signal socket is typically the one that matches the amber/blinker section of the lens.
- Tip: If unsure, turn on hazards first.
Step 3: Remove the turn signal bulb socket
- Grip the socket firmly and rotate it counterclockwise about a quarter turn.
- Pull the socket straight out of the tail light housing.
Step 4: Replace the bulb
- Put on nitrile gloves to keep oils off the new bulb.
- Pull the old bulb straight out of the socket (it’s a push-in style).
- Push the new rear turn signal bulb (7440 amber) straight into the socket until fully seated.
Step 5: Reinstall the socket and trunk liner
- Insert the socket back into the tail light housing.
- Rotate clockwise to lock it in place (snug by hand—do not force it).
- Reposition the trunk liner and reinstall any clips by pressing them in by hand.
Step 6: Test operation
- Turn the ignition to ON and test the turn signal and hazards.
- Check that the flash rate is normal (not “fast blinking”).
âś… After Repair
- If the turn signal “fast blinks,” recheck that the bulb is fully seated and the socket is locked.
- Verify both left and right signals work, plus hazards.
- If the new bulb still doesn’t work, inspect the socket for corrosion and check the related fuse.
