๐ Before You Begin

- ๐ฆ Lower the tailgate to expose the two taillight mounting bolts on each side.
- ๐งค Put on safety glasses and nitrile work gloves.
๐จ Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Remove the Taillight Bolts
- Use a 10mm socket and 1/4-inch drive ratchet to remove the two bolts along the inner edge of the taillight.
- Support the assembly with one hand after removing the second bolt.
Step 2: Release the Taillight Assembly
- Grip the inner edge and pull the taillight straight toward the rear of your Tundra.
- If it is tight, use a plastic trim-removal tool gently between the forward edge of the lamp and body.
- The locating pins are smooth alignment posts that hold the outer edge in place.
- Do not twist the assembly or pull it sideways.
- Use steady pressure instead of sudden force.
Step 3: Remove the Turn Signal Socket
- Support the taillight so its wiring is not stretched.
- Locate the turn signal socket connected to the amber section of the lamp.
- Using your gloved hand, rotate the socket counterclockwise approximately one-quarter turn.
- Pull the socket straight out of the housing.
Step 4: Replace the Bulb
- Use your gloved fingers to pull the old wedge-base bulb straight out of its socket.
- Align the contacts of the new 7440NA amber bulb with the socket.
- Push the bulb straight into the socket until fully seated.
- Do not apply grease unless the bulb manufacturer specifically supplies or requires it.
Step 5: Test the New Bulb
- Keep the taillight supported and away from painted surfaces.
- Switch on the ignition and activate that turn signal.
- Confirm the new bulb flashes brightly and at the normal speed.
- Switch off the ignition and exterior lights before continuing.
- If it does not illuminate, remove the bulb with your gloved fingers, rotate it 180 degrees, reinstall it, and test again.
Step 6: Reinstall the Socket
- Insert the socket into the taillight housing using your gloved hand.
- Rotate the socket clockwise approximately one-quarter turn until it locks.
- Confirm the socket seal sits evenly against the housing.
Step 7: Reinstall the Taillight Assembly
- Align the outer locating pins with their body-mounted retainers.
- Press the assembly straight forward using both hands until it sits flush.
- Start both mounting bolts by hand to prevent crossed threads.
- Use the 10mm socket and 1/4-inch drive torque wrench to tighten both bolts to 5.4 Nm (48 in-lbs).
- Do not overtighten the bolts; the plastic lamp housing can crack.
Step 8: Replace the Opposite-Side Bulb
- Repeat Steps 1โ7 on the opposite taillight using the same listed tools.
- Replacing both bulbs together helps maintain equal brightness and reliability.
โ After Repair
- โ Test the left and right turn signals separately.
- ๐จ Switch on the hazard lights and confirm both rear bulbs flash evenly.
- ๐ Confirm each taillight sits flush and does not move when pressed gently.
- ๐ง Check that both bulb sockets are locked to help prevent water entry.
- ๐ง No warning-light reset, coding, or scan-tool procedure is required.
