🔧 Escape - Front Windshield Wiper Blade Replacement

Replacing the front windshield wiper blades on your Escape is a quick beginner-friendly job. New blades help clear rain, dust, and road spray properly, which is important for safe visibility.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 10-15 minutes

⚠️ Safety & Precautions

  • ⚠️ Keep the wiper arms from snapping back onto the windshield; they can crack the glass.
  • ⚠️ Do not turn the wipers on while the blades are removed.
  • ⚠️ Work with the ignition off and the wiper switch off.
  • ⚠️ No battery disconnect is required for this repair.

🔧 Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Safety glasses
  • Nitrile gloves
  • Clean microfiber towel

🔩 Required Parts

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:

  • Front wiper blades - Driver: 28", Passenger: 28" - Qty: 2

📋 Before You Begin

  • Park your Escape on level ground.
  • Turn the ignition off.
  • Make sure the wiper switch is off.
  • Place a clean microfiber towel on the lower windshield under each wiper arm to protect the glass.
  • The front wipers use a push-button style connector. This is the small release button where the blade attaches to the metal wiper arm.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Lift the Driver Side Wiper Arm

  • Put on safety glasses and nitrile gloves.
  • Lift the driver side wiper arm away from the windshield until it stays raised.
  • Use a clean microfiber towel on the glass under the arm as a safety cushion.
  • Hold the arm firmly.

Step 2: Release the Old Driver Side Wiper Blade

  • Find the small release button on the center of the wiper blade connector.
  • Press the release button with your thumb while holding the metal wiper arm steady.
  • Slide the old blade downward and away from the end of the wiper arm.
  • No torque spec applies because there are no bolts or screws.

Step 3: Install the New Driver Side Wiper Blade

  • Line up the new 28" front wiper blade with the end of the wiper arm.
  • Slide the new blade onto the arm until it clicks into place.
  • Gently tug the blade by hand to make sure it is locked.
  • Listen for the click.

Step 4: Lower the Driver Side Wiper Arm

  • Use one hand to hold the wiper arm and the other hand to guide the blade.
  • Slowly lower the wiper blade onto the windshield.
  • Do not let the arm drop by itself.

Step 5: Replace the Passenger Side Wiper Blade

  • Lift the passenger side wiper arm away from the windshield.
  • Place the clean microfiber towel under the arm to protect the glass.
  • Press the release button on the old blade connector.
  • Slide the old blade off the wiper arm.
  • Slide the new 28" front wiper blade onto the arm until it clicks.
  • Gently tug the blade by hand to confirm it is locked.
  • Slowly lower the wiper arm back onto the windshield.

Step 6: Check Blade Position

  • Use your hands to make sure both blades sit flat against the windshield.
  • Check that the rubber edge is not twisted or folded.
  • Remove the clean microfiber towel from the windshield.

✅ After Repair

  • Spray windshield washer fluid and run the wipers for a few cycles.
  • Watch for streaking, skipping, chattering, or loose movement.
  • If a blade streaks, wipe the rubber edge gently with a clean microfiber towel.
  • If a blade pops loose, turn the wipers off and reinstall it until it clicks.
