📋 Before You Begin
- 🚗 Park your Tucson on level ground.
- 🅿️ Shift the automatic transmission into Park and set the parking brake.
- 🔌 Make sure the ignition is off and the wiper switch is off.
- 🧼 Clean the windshield with glass cleaner if dirt or grit is present.
- 📌 Most replacement blades use a J-hook adapter. A J-hook is the curved hook at the end of the wiper arm that locks into the blade.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Lift the Driver-Side Wiper Arm
- Use your mechanic gloves and gently lift the driver-side wiper arm away from the windshield.
- Place a clean microfiber towel on the windshield under the lifted arm as a safety cushion.
- The wiper arm is spring-loaded, meaning it wants to pull itself back down toward the glass.
- Hold the arm firmly.
Step 2: Release the Old Driver-Side Blade
- Use your fingers to locate the small release tab near the center of the wiper blade.
- Press the release tab while sliding the blade downward toward the base of the wiper arm.
- Once it clears the J-hook, pull the blade off the arm.
- No torque spec applies because this part snaps into place by hand.
Step 3: Install the New 26-Inch Driver-Side Blade
- Use your hands to align the 26-inch front wiper blade with the J-hook on the driver-side arm.
- Slide the new blade upward into the hook until it clicks and locks.
- Gently tug the blade downward by hand to confirm it is locked in place.
- Lower the arm carefully back onto the windshield using your mechanic gloves.
- Listen for a solid click.
Step 4: Lift the Passenger-Side Wiper Arm
- Use your mechanic gloves and lift the passenger-side wiper arm away from the windshield.
- Move the clean microfiber towel under this arm to protect the glass.
- Keep one hand on the wiper arm so it cannot snap back.
Step 5: Remove the Old Passenger-Side Blade
- Use your fingers to press the release tab on the old passenger-side blade.
- Slide the blade downward and out of the J-hook.
- Remove the blade from the arm by hand.
- No torque spec applies because this blade is not bolted on.
Step 6: Install the New 16-Inch Passenger-Side Blade
- Use your hands to align the 16-inch front wiper blade with the passenger-side J-hook.
- Slide the blade upward into the hook until it clicks into place.
- Gently pull on the blade by hand to make sure it is secure.
- Lower the wiper arm slowly back onto the windshield.
Step 7: Test the Wipers
- Use the windshield washer switch to spray washer fluid onto the glass before running the wipers.
- Turn the wipers on low speed and check that both blades move smoothly.
- Watch for streaking, skipping, chatter, or loose blade movement.
- If a blade is loose, turn the wipers off and press the blade firmly into the J-hook until it clicks.
✅ After Repair
- ✅ Confirm both blades park flat at the bottom of the windshield.
- ✅ Check that the driver-side and passenger-side blades do not touch each other while moving.
- ✅ If streaks remain, wipe the rubber edges with a damp clean microfiber towel.
- ✅ Replace front wipers in pairs for even wiping performance.
