📋 Before You Begin
- 🚗 Park your Fusion on level ground and turn the ignition OFF.
- 🧼 Make sure the windshield is clean enough that dirt will not scratch the glass while you work.
- 🧤 Put on nitrile gloves to keep your hands clean and improve grip.
- 💡 Most replacement blades include adapters; use the adapter marked for a Ford pinch-tab style wiper arm if supplied.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Lift the Driver Wiper Arm
- Use your gloved hand to lift the driver-side wiper arm away from the windshield.
- Place a clean microfiber towel on the windshield under the arm.
- This protects the glass if the arm slips.
- Hold the arm firmly.
Step 2: Find the Release Tabs
- Use your gloved fingers to look at the center of the wiper blade where it connects to the arm.
- Your Fusion uses a pinch-tab style connector on the front wipers.
- A pinch-tab connector has small squeeze tabs that unlock the blade from the wiper arm.
Step 3: Remove the Old Driver Wiper Blade
- Use your gloved fingers to squeeze the release tabs on both sides of the blade connector.
- While squeezing the tabs, slide the old blade downward and away from the end of the wiper arm.
- Remove the blade from the arm.
- Carefully lower the bare wiper arm onto the microfiber towel.
Step 4: Prepare the New Driver Wiper Blade
- Use your gloved hand to remove the new 26-inch wiper blade from its package.
- If the blade includes multiple adapters, use your fingers to install the Ford pinch-tab adapter that matches the old blade connector.
- Do not remove the thin rubber edge protector until the blade is ready to install, if your blade includes one.
Step 5: Install the New Driver Wiper Blade
- Use your gloved hand to align the new blade connector with the end of the wiper arm.
- Slide the blade onto the arm until it clicks into place.
- Gently tug the blade by hand to confirm it is locked.
- No torque spec applies because wiper blades snap into place by hand.
Step 6: Lower the Driver Wiper Arm
- Use your gloved hand to slowly lower the wiper arm back onto the windshield.
- Remove the clean microfiber towel after the blade is resting on the glass.
- Never drop the wiper arm.
Step 7: Replace the Passenger Wiper Blade
- Use your gloved hand to lift the passenger-side wiper arm away from the windshield.
- Place the clean microfiber towel under the passenger wiper arm.
- Use your gloved fingers to squeeze the release tabs on the old passenger blade.
- Slide the old 26-inch blade off the arm.
- Use your gloved hand to slide the new 26-inch blade onto the arm until it clicks.
- Gently tug the blade by hand to confirm it is locked.
- Slowly lower the arm back onto the windshield.
Step 8: Test the New Wipers
- Use the windshield washer switch to spray washer fluid onto the glass.
- Run the wipers for several passes.
- Watch for streaking, skipping, or a blade that is not fully attached.
- If a blade chatters or lifts, turn the wipers OFF and use your gloved hand to reseat the connector.
✅ After Repair
- ✅ Confirm both blades wipe smoothly across the windshield.
- ✅ Confirm both blades park flat at the bottom of the windshield.
- ✅ Make sure the old blades and packaging are removed from the cowl area below the windshield.
- ✅ Top off washer fluid if the spray is weak or empty.
