HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:
- Front wiper blades - Driver: 22", Passenger: 20" - Qty: 2
📋 Before You Begin
- 🚗 Park your Tacoma on level ground and turn the ignition off.
- 🧼 Make sure the windshield is clean enough that dirt will not scratch the glass while you work.
- 🧰 A wiper arm is the metal arm that holds the rubber wiper blade against the windshield.
- 🧰 The Tacoma uses a common hook-style wiper arm, which locks into the center of the blade.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Protect the Windshield
- Use a clean towel and lay it on the windshield under the driver-side wiper arm.
- Put on safety glasses and nitrile gloves.
- Protect the glass before lifting the arm.
Step 2: Lift the Driver-Side Wiper Arm
- Use your hand to gently lift the driver-side wiper arm away from the windshield until it stays upright.
- Hold the arm steady while working. The spring in the arm is strong.
Step 3: Unlock the Old Wiper Blade
- Use your fingers to find the small locking tab where the blade connects to the hook-style wiper arm.
- Press the locking tab inward with your thumb.
- While pressing the tab, slide the old blade downward toward the base of the wiper arm.
- Once it clears the hook, pull the blade off the arm.
Step 4: Install the New Driver-Side Wiper Blade
- Use your hands to position the new 22" driver-side wiper blade so the open connector faces the hook on the wiper arm.
- Slide the blade up into the hook until you hear or feel a click.
- Gently tug the blade by hand to confirm it is locked in place.
- No torque spec applies because this part clips on by hand.
Step 5: Lower the Driver-Side Wiper Arm
- Use your hand to slowly lower the wiper arm back onto the windshield.
- Do not drop it. Keep control of the arm the whole time.
Step 6: Replace the Passenger-Side Wiper Blade
- Move the clean towel under the passenger-side wiper arm.
- Use your hand to lift the passenger-side wiper arm away from the windshield.
- Press the locking tab with your thumb and slide the old blade down out of the hook.
- Install the new 20" passenger-side wiper blade by sliding it into the hook until it clicks.
- Gently tug the blade by hand to make sure it is secure.
- Slowly lower the wiper arm back onto the windshield.
Step 7: Check Blade Position
- Use your eyes to confirm both wiper blades sit flat against the windshield.
- Make sure the rubber wiping edge is not twisted or folded.
- A flat blade wipes cleaner and quieter.
✅ After Repair
- 💧 Spray washer fluid and run the wipers for a few passes.
- 👀 Check that both blades wipe smoothly without streaking, skipping, or chattering.
- 🔒 If a blade moves loosely, turn the wipers off and reseat the blade until it clicks securely.
- 🧼 Wipe the new rubber edges with a damp towel if they leave light streaks at first.
