🔧 Ascent - Front Windshield Wiper Blade Replacement

This is an easy first DIY job. Replace both front blades together: 26 inches on the driver side and 20 inches on the passenger side. The front wiper set is already showing in the parts sidebar.

📋 Before You Begin

• Park your Ascent on level ground and switch the ignition completely off.
• Confirm the wiper stalk is in the OFF position.
• Close the hood before lifting the wiper arms.
• Place a folded microfiber towel on the windshield beneath the blade being replaced.
• No infotainment menu, scan tool, battery disconnect, or special service mode is needed.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Raise the Driver-Side Wiper Arm

• Use your gloved hand to lift the driver-side wiper arm away from the windshield.
• Stop when the arm remains raised without forcing it farther.
• Keep the microfiber towel positioned beneath the blade.
• Work on only one arm at a time.

Step 2: Release the Old Driver-Side Blade

• Rotate the blade slightly so you can see the connection between the blade and arm.
• Use your thumb to press the small release button or locking tab on the connector.
• While holding the release, slide the blade toward the base of the wiper arm.
• Guide the blade free without twisting or bending the metal arm.

Step 3: Protect the Windshield

• Use your gloved hand to keep control of the bare wiper arm.
• Gently lower the arm onto the folded microfiber towel while preparing the new blade.
• Do not allow the metal end to touch the windshield directly.

Step 4: Install the 26-Inch Driver-Side Blade

• Remove the protective packaging from the 26-inch blade.
• If the blade includes several adapters, use the preinstalled push-button adapter specified for your Ascent.
• Use your gloved hand to raise the wiper arm and align its end with the blade connector.
• Slide the blade into the connector until the locking tab makes an audible click.
• Pull gently on the blade to confirm it is locked.
• No fastener is used, so there is no torque specification.

Step 5: Lower the Driver-Side Wiper

• Use both hands to rotate the blade until it lies flat against the windshield.
• Lower the arm gently onto the glass.
• Do not let the arm snap down.

Step 6: Replace the Passenger-Side Blade

• Move the microfiber towel beneath the passenger-side blade.
• Use your gloved hand to raise the passenger-side wiper arm.
• Press its release button or locking tab and slide the old blade off.
• Install the 20-inch passenger-side blade in the same direction as the old blade.
• Slide it into place until the connector clicks.
• Pull gently to verify the lock, then lower the arm carefully.

Step 7: Remove the Blade Protectors

• Use your fingers to remove any plastic shipping cover from each rubber wiping edge.
• Check that neither blade is upside down, loose, or touching the windshield trim.

• Turn the ignition on only after both wiper arms are lowered completely.
• Spray windshield-washer fluid and operate the wipers through several complete sweeps.
• Confirm both blades move quietly, clear the glass evenly, and remain securely attached.
• If a blade skips or streaks, switch the ignition off and recheck that its connector clicked fully into place.
