🔧 XT4 - Front Windshield Wiper Blade Replacement

This is a simple, tool-free repair. Replace both front blades together for an even, quiet wipe. The driver side uses a 24-inch blade, and the passenger side uses a 20-inch blade.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 10-15 minutes

⚠️ Safety & Precautions

  • ⚠️ Turn the vehicle off before touching the wiper arms.
  • ⚠️ Place a folded towel on the windshield beneath each arm.
  • ⚠️ Never release a raised bare wiper arm. It can snap down and crack the glass.
  • ⚠️ Replace one blade at a time so the second blade remains a useful reference.
  • ⚠️ No battery disconnect is required.

🔧 Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Clean microfiber towel
  • Folded protective towel
  • Nitrile work gloves
  • Safety glasses

🔩 Required Parts

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:

  • Valeo DuraBeam 24-inch beam wiper blade - Driver: 24" - Qty: 1
  • Valeo DuraBeam 20-inch beam wiper blade - Passenger: 20" - Qty: 1

I'd use this matched beam-blade pair. Both have preinstalled J-hook adapters, and their low-profile design handles Haryana heat and monsoon rain better than a basic exposed-frame blade. Good visibility is cheap insurance.

📋 Before You Begin

  • Park your XT4 on level ground and switch the ignition completely off.
  • Make sure the wipers are parked at the bottom of the windshield.
  • Remove any protective covers from the new blades, but leave the rubber wiping edges clean.
  • Compare each new blade with its matching old blade before installation.
  • If the hood prevents an arm from lifting, don't force it. Use the owner's-manual wiper service-position procedure before continuing.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Protect the Windshield

  • Use the folded protective towel to cover the glass beneath the driver-side wiper arm.
  • Gently lift the arm away from the windshield until it stays raised.
  • Don't bend or twist the arm.

Step 2: Turn the Old Blade

  • Wear the nitrile work gloves and rotate the old blade until it sits nearly perpendicular to the arm.
  • Locate the small locking tab where the blade connects to the arm.
  • The curved end of the arm is called a J-hook because it looks like the letter J.

Step 3: Remove the Driver-Side Blade

  • Press the locking tab with your thumb.
  • Slide the blade downward toward the open end of the J-hook.
  • Turn the blade slightly and guide the hook through the opening in its adapter.
  • Lower the bare arm carefully onto the folded protective towel.
  • Never leave a bare arm standing.

Step 4: Install the 24-Inch Driver Blade

  • Confirm that you're holding the 24-inch driver-side blade.
  • Pass the J-hook through the opening in the blade adapter.
  • Pull the blade upward into the hook until the locking tab clicks.
  • Tug gently on the blade to confirm that it's locked.
  • No torque specification applies because the blade uses a snap-lock connector.

Step 5: Lower the Driver-Side Arm

  • Rotate the blade until its rubber edge faces the windshield.
  • Support the arm with one hand and remove the folded protective towel with the other.
  • Lower the arm gently onto the glass. Don't let it drop.

Step 6: Replace the Passenger-Side Blade

  • Move the folded protective towel beneath the passenger-side arm.
  • Repeat Steps 2 through 5 using the 20-inch passenger-side blade.
  • Make sure the adapter clicks securely into the J-hook.

Step 7: Clean and Inspect

  • Use the clean microfiber towel to wipe dirt from the windshield where the blades park.
  • Remove any plastic shipping guard from each rubber wiping edge.
  • Check that both blades sit flat against the glass and aren't installed backward.

✅ After Repair

  • Switch the ignition on and spray windshield washer fluid.
  • Run the wipers at low speed for several cycles.
  • Confirm that both blades move freely without striking each other, the hood, or the windshield trim.
  • Check for streaking, skipping, chatter, or loose adapters.
  • If a blade shifts on the arm, stop the wipers immediately and reinstall its connector.
