🔧 Crosstrek - Front Wiper Blade Replacement

Replacing the front wiper blades restores clear visibility and reduces streaking and chatter in rain. On your Crosstrek, the blades clip onto the wiper arms with a small locking tab that you release to slide the old blade off and the new one on.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.25-0.5 hours

⚠️ Safety & Precautions

  • ⚠️ Turn the ignition OFF and remove the key before lifting wiper arms.
  • ⚠️ Don’t let the wiper arm snap onto the windshield; it can crack the glass.
  • ⚠️ Place a towel on the windshield as a cushion while working.
  • ⚠️ Battery disconnect is not required for this repair.

🔧 Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Microfiber towel
  • Nitrile gloves
  • Safety glasses
  • Small flat-blade screwdriver

🔩 Required Parts

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:

  • Front wiper blades - Driver: 26", Passenger: 16" - Qty: 2

📋 Before You Begin

  • Park on level ground and make sure the wipers are in their “parked” (down) position.
  • Turn the ignition OFF.
  • Lay a microfiber towel across the lower windshield area as protection.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Lift the wiper arm safely

  • Use your hands to lift one wiper arm away from the windshield until it stays up.
  • Place the microfiber towel under the arm area as a cushion.
  • Hold the arm anytime it feels springy.

Step 2: Release the blade lock tab

  • Rotate the blade so you can see where it clips to the arm (the “J-hook” connection).
  • Press the small locking tab on the blade with your thumb.
  • If it’s stuck, gently help the tab with a small flat-blade screwdriver (do not pry hard).
  • The tab is plastic—be gentle.

Step 3: Slide the old blade off

  • While holding the tab released, slide the blade down and off the hook.
  • Keep one hand on the wiper arm so it doesn’t snap back.

Step 4: Install the new blade

  • Line up the new blade’s adapter with the hook on the wiper arm.
  • Slide it into place until you hear/feel a click (that’s the lock tab engaging).
  • Gently tug the blade to confirm it’s locked and won’t slide off.

Step 5: Lower the arm and repeat on the other side

  • Lower the wiper arm back onto the windshield slowly with your hand.
  • Repeat Steps 1–4 for the other front wiper blade.

✅ After Repair

  • Start the vehicle and run the front washers for 2–3 seconds, then wipe.
  • Confirm both blades wipe smoothly without streaks or skipping.
  • If there’s chatter, clean the windshield and blades with glass cleaner and a towel.
