🔧 BRZ - Front Wiper Blade Replacement

Replacing the front wiper blades restores clear visibility in rain and prevents streaking or chatter. This is a quick job: you’ll remove each old blade from the wiper arm and click the new one into place.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.25-0.5 hours

⚠️ Safety & Precautions

  • ⚠️ Turn the ignition OFF before lifting the wiper arms.
  • ⚠️ Don’t let a bare wiper arm snap onto the glass—place a towel on the windshield to protect it.
  • ⚠️ Lift the wiper arm gently; don’t force it past its normal hinge range.
  • ⚠️ Battery disconnect is not required.

🔧 Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Safety glasses
  • Mechanic gloves
  • Clean microfiber towel
  • Step stool

🔩 Required Parts

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:

  • Front wiper blades - Driver: 22", Passenger: 18" - Qty: 2

📋 Before You Begin

  • Park your BRZ on level ground and turn the ignition OFF.
  • Place a clean microfiber towel on the lower windshield area as a “catch pad.”
  • Unbox the new blades and confirm you have two different lengths (driver is longer).

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Lift the driver-side wiper arm

  • Put on mechanic gloves and safety glasses.
  • Lift the driver-side wiper arm away from the windshield until it stays up on its own.
  • Keep the clean microfiber towel under the arm area in case it slips.

Step 2: Remove the old driver-side wiper blade

  • Rotate the blade so it’s roughly perpendicular (90°) to the wiper arm for easier access.
  • Locate the small release tab at the blade’s connector (where it meets the arm).
  • Press the tab with your fingers, then slide the blade down and off the hook at the end of the arm.
  • If stuck, wiggle while pressing the tab.

Step 3: Install the new driver-side wiper blade

  • Take the new 22" driver blade.
  • Slide the wiper arm’s hook into the blade connector until it clicks/locks.
  • Gently tug the blade to confirm it’s locked in place.

Step 4: Lower the driver-side wiper arm safely

  • Guide the arm down by hand (don’t let it drop).
  • Remove and reposition the clean microfiber towel as needed.

Step 5: Repeat for the passenger-side wiper blade

  • Use the same process to remove/install the passenger blade.
  • Install the 18" passenger blade and confirm it clicks/locks.
  • Lower the passenger wiper arm gently onto the glass.

✅ After Repair

  • Spray washer fluid and run the wipers to confirm smooth wiping and no skipping.
  • If you see streaks, clean the windshield with glass cleaner and a clean microfiber towel.
  • Double-check both blades are fully clicked in (a loose blade can fly off).
