🔧 Tucson - Front Windshield Wiper Blade Replacement

Replacing the front wiper blades on your Tucson is a quick maintenance job that restores clear visibility in rain. The key is safely lifting the wiper arms and swapping the blades without letting the metal arm snap against the glass.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.25-0.5 hours

⚠️ Safety & Precautions

  • ⚠️ Turn the ignition OFF before handling the wipers.
  • ⚠️ Do not let the bare wiper arm snap onto the windshield; it can crack the glass.
  • ⚠️ Place a towel on the windshield under the arm while swapping blades.
  • ⚠️ If the wipers are tucked under the hood edge, use “service position” before lifting the arms.

🔧 Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Safety glasses
  • Nitrile gloves
  • Microfiber towel
  • Step stool

🔩 Required Parts

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:

  • Front wiper blades - Driver: 26", Passenger: 16" - Qty: 2

📋 Before You Begin

  • Park on level ground and shift to Park.
  • Turn the ignition OFF.
  • If your wipers sit low under the hood line, set the wipers to service position before lifting them.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Put the wipers in “service position” (if needed)

  • Turn ignition ON, then turn ignition OFF.
  • Within about 20 seconds, use the wiper stalk and push it to MIST (single-wipe) and hold briefly until the wipers move up and stop.
  • If they already lift freely, skip this step.

Step 2: Lift the driver-side wiper arm safely

  • Use your hands to lift the driver wiper arm away from the glass.
  • Place a microfiber towel on the windshield under the arm (in case it slips).

Step 3: Remove the old blade from the J-hook

  • At the center of the blade, find the connector where the blade meets the arm.
  • Press the small release tab with your thumb, then slide the blade down and off the hook.
  • It helps to rotate the blade 90° to the arm.

Step 4: Install the new driver-side blade

  • Unwrap the new 26" blade.
  • Hook the new blade connector onto the arm’s J-hook and slide it upward until it clicks/locks.
  • Gently tug on the blade to confirm it’s fully latched.

Step 5: Repeat for the passenger-side blade

  • Lift the passenger wiper arm by hand and keep the microfiber towel on the glass.
  • Press the release tab and slide the old blade off.
  • Install the new 16" blade until it clicks, then tug-check the latch.

Step 6: Return wipers to normal position

  • Lower both wiper arms back onto the windshield carefully by hand.
  • If you used service position, turn ignition ON and tap the wiper stalk once to let them park normally.

✅ After Repair

  • Spray washer fluid and run the wipers to confirm smooth, quiet wiping.
  • If you see streaking, wipe the windshield with glass cleaner and a clean towel.
  • Make sure both blades are the correct lengths and not hitting the windshield trim.
