🔧 Front Windshield Wiper Blades - Replacement

Your front wiper blades are a quick, beginner-friendly replacement. On your Equinox, this job is usually just a matter of lifting the arms, releasing the old blades, and snapping the new ones into place.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.2-0.5 hours

⚠️ Safety & Precautions

  • Turn the ignition off before starting.
  • Keep the wiper arms from snapping back onto the glass. They can crack the windshield.
  • If the arms are spring-loaded, hold them firmly while swapping blades.
  • No battery disconnect is required for this repair.

🔧 Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Gloves
  • Safety glasses
  • Soft cloth

🔩 Required Parts

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:

  • Front wiper blade - Driver side 24" - Qty: 1
  • Front wiper blade - Passenger side 18" - Qty: 1

📋 Before You Begin

  • Park on level ground with the ignition off.
  • Lift the wipers away from the windshield carefully.
  • If the arms stay too close to the hood, turn the ignition on briefly and switch the wipers off mid-sweep so they park higher. Then shut the vehicle off before starting.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Lift the wiper arm

  • Use your hand to lift the driver-side wiper arm away from the windshield.
  • Place a soft cloth on the glass under the arm for extra protection.

Step 2: Remove the old blade

  • Use your hand to press the release tab where the blade connects to the arm.
  • Slide the blade downward to unhook it from the arm.
  • Hold the arm firmly.

Step 3: Install the new driver blade

  • Use your hand to line up the new 24" wiper blade with the arm hook.
  • Slide it into the hook until it clicks into place.
  • Gently tug the blade to make sure it is locked in.

Step 4: Replace the passenger blade

  • Use your hand to lift the passenger-side arm.
  • Remove the old blade by pressing the release tab and sliding it off.
  • Install the new 18" wiper blade the same way until it clicks.

Step 5: Lower the arms carefully

  • Use both hands to lower each arm back onto the windshield slowly.
  • Make sure the blades sit flat and do not twist.

✅ After Repair

  • Turn the ignition on and spray washer fluid to test both blades.
  • Check that each blade clears the glass smoothly with no chatter or streaks.
  • If one side skips, recheck that the blade is fully locked into the arm.
