🔧 Wrangler - Front Windshield Wiper Blade Replacement

You’ll be removing the old wiper blades from the wiper arms and snapping new blades onto the same hook-style connector. Fresh blades improve visibility and reduce streaking and chatter in rain.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.25-0.5 hours

Assumption: Your Wrangler uses 15" front blades on both sides (common fitment).

⚠️ Safety & Precautions

  • ⚠️ Keep fingers clear of the wiper arm hinge and spring.
  • ⚠️ Don’t let a bare wiper arm snap onto the windshield; it can crack the glass.
  • ⚠️ Turn the ignition off and remove the key before working near the wipers.
  • ⚠️ No battery disconnect is required.

🔧 Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Clean shop towel
  • Small flathead screwdriver
  • Nitrile gloves
  • Safety glasses

🔩 Required Parts

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:

  • Front wiper blades - Driver: 15", Passenger: 15" - Qty: 2

📋 Before You Begin

  • Park on level ground and turn the ignition off.
  • Lay a clean shop towel at the base of the windshield as a cushion.
  • Lift one wiper arm at a time so you don’t mix sides.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Lift the wiper arm

  • Use your hand to lift the wiper arm away from the windshield until it stays up.
  • Place the clean shop towel under the arm near the glass.

Step 2: Unclip the old wiper blade from the J-hook

  • Rotate the wiper blade so it’s roughly perpendicular to the wiper arm (makes the latch easier to access).
  • Find the small release tab where the blade attaches to the arm (this is the latch on the “J-hook” connector).
  • If it’s tight, use a small flathead screwdriver to gently press the tab while you slide the blade down and off the hook.
  • J-hook = the arm’s hook-shaped end.

Step 3: Install the new wiper blade

  • Align the new blade’s connector with the wiper arm’s hook.
  • Slide the new blade onto the hook until you hear/feel a click.
  • Gently tug on the blade to confirm it’s locked in place.

Step 4: Lower the wiper arm carefully

  • Use your hand to lower the wiper arm back onto the windshield slowly.
  • Remove the clean shop towel.

Step 5: Repeat on the other side

  • Repeat Steps 1–4 for the other front wiper.

✅ After Repair

  • Start the engine and test wipers on low speed, then high speed.
  • Spray washer fluid and confirm both blades wipe cleanly with no skipping or streaks.
  • If a blade streaks, wipe the rubber edge with a damp towel and retest.
