🔧 Civic - Front Windshield Wiper Blade Replacement
Your Civic’s front wiper blades are designed to slide off the wiper arm and click a new blade on. Replacing them restores clear vision in rain and prevents streaking or glass scratching from worn rubber.
Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.25-0.5 hours
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- ⚠️ Keep a firm grip on the wiper arm—if it snaps back, it can crack the windshield.
- ⚠️ Put a towel on the windshield under the arm while you work to protect the glass.
- ⚠️ Replace one blade at a time so you don’t mix up sizes.
- Battery disconnect is not required.

📋 Before You Begin
- Park on level ground and turn the ignition OFF.
- Confirm the wipers are in their parked (down) position at the bottom of the windshield.
- Lay a clean microfiber towel on the windshield under the wiper area.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Lift the driver-side wiper arm
- Use a clean microfiber towel to protect the glass area below the arm.
- Lift the wiper arm up until it stays raised. Don’t force it past its normal stop.
Step 2: Remove the old blade from the J-hook
- With nitrile gloves on, rotate the wiper blade so it’s more perpendicular to the arm.
- Find the small release tab/clip where the blade connects to the arm (this is the “J-hook,” a hook-shaped arm end).
- Press the tab with your fingers and slide the blade down and out of the hook.
- Set the old blade aside and keep holding the arm so it doesn’t spring back.
Step 3: Install the new driver-side blade
- Remove the new 26" blade from packaging and confirm it has a J-hook style connector.
- Slide the new blade’s connector into the hook opening, then pull it upward until it clicks/locks.
- Gently tug the blade to confirm it’s fully latched.
Step 4: Lower the driver-side arm carefully
- Slowly lower the arm back onto the windshield, guiding it by hand.
- Remove and reposition the clean microfiber towel as needed.
Step 5: Repeat on the passenger side
- Repeat Steps 1–4 for the passenger side using the 16" blade.
- Use the step stool if you need better reach and control.
✅ After Repair
- Remove the clean microfiber towel from the windshield.
- Start the car and test washers/wipers for smooth operation and no skipping.
- If you see streaks, clean the glass with washer fluid and wipe with a microfiber towel.
