🔧 Forte - Front Windshield Wiper Blade Replacement

Your Forte uses conventional hook-style front wiper arms. Replace both blades together if they streak, chatter, split, or leave unwiped areas.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 10-15 minutes

⚠️ Safety & Precautions

  • ⚠️ Switch the ignition and wipers off before lifting either arm.
  • ⚠️ Do not let a bare metal wiper arm snap against the windshield.
  • ⚠️ Replace one blade at a time so the other arm remains safely parked.
  • ⚠️ Battery disconnection is not required.

🔧 Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Safety glasses
  • Nitrile work gloves
  • Thick microfiber towel
  • Metric tape measure

🔩 Required Parts

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:

  • Front hook-style wiper blade - Driver: 28" - Qty: 1
  • Front hook-style wiper blade - Passenger: 14" - Qty: 1

Replace in pairs. Confirm the blade package includes an adapter for the standard J-hook arm.

📋 Before You Begin

  • 🅿️ Park your Forte on level ground and turn the ignition completely off.
  • 🧤 Put on safety glasses and nitrile work gloves.
  • 📏 Use the metric tape measure to compare each replacement blade with the corresponding old blade.
  • 🧼 Clean loose dirt from the lower windshield before raising the arms.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Protect the Windshield

  • Use the thick microfiber towel to cover the glass directly beneath the driver-side wiper arm.
  • The towel helps protect the windshield if the spring-loaded arm slips.

Step 2: Raise the Driver-Side Arm

  • While wearing nitrile work gloves, grip the metal arm rather than the rubber blade.
  • Lift the arm slowly until it stays raised away from the windshield.
  • Do not force the arm sideways or twist it.

Step 3: Remove the Driver-Side Blade

  • Use your gloved fingers to rotate the blade until it sits nearly perpendicular to the arm.
  • Find the small locking tab where the blade meets the curved J-hook. A J-hook is the curved end of the metal wiper arm.
  • Press the locking tab with your gloved thumb, then slide the blade downward toward the base of the arm.
  • Move the blade around the open end of the hook and remove it.
  • Lower the bare arm gently onto the thick microfiber towel while preparing the new blade.

Step 4: Install the 28-Inch Driver Blade

  • Use the metric tape measure to verify that the new driver blade is 28 inches long.
  • Use your gloved hands to guide the arm’s J-hook through the large opening in the blade adapter.
  • Pull the blade upward into the hook until the adapter clicks and locks.
  • Pull lightly in the opposite direction with your gloved hands to confirm it cannot slide free.
  • A firm click confirms proper engagement.

Step 5: Lower the Driver-Side Arm

  • Use one gloved hand to support the metal arm and the other to steady the blade.
  • Remove the thick microfiber towel, then lower the blade gently onto the glass.
  • Confirm the rubber edge rests flat and the blade is not upside down.

Step 6: Replace the Passenger-Side Blade

  • Place the thick microfiber towel beneath the passenger-side arm.
  • Use your gloved hands to lift the arm and press the blade adapter’s locking tab.
  • Slide the old blade down, move it around the J-hook, and remove it.
  • Use the metric tape measure to verify that the replacement passenger blade is 14 inches long.
  • Guide the J-hook through the new blade adapter and pull upward until it clicks.
  • Pull lightly with your gloved hands to confirm it is locked, then lower the arm gently onto the windshield.

Step 7: Inspect Both Blades

  • Use your gloved fingers to confirm both adapters are fully closed and centered in their hooks.
  • Check that the 28-inch blade is on the driver side and the 14-inch blade is on the passenger side.
  • Use the thick microfiber towel to wipe fingerprints from the glass and rubber edges.

✅ After Repair

  • 💧 Start your Forte and spray windshield-washer fluid before operating the wipers.
  • 👀 Run the wipers at low speed and confirm both blades move smoothly without contacting each other or the windshield trim.
  • 🔍 Check for streaking, skipping, or a loose adapter. Switch the ignition off before correcting any problem.
  • 🗑️ Recycle the old blades where metal-and-rubber recycling is accepted.
