🔧 Corolla - Front Windshield Wiper Blade Replacement

You’ll be removing the old wiper blades from the wiper arms and snapping new blades on. Worn blades cause streaking, chattering, and poor visibility in rain, so this is a quick safety fix.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.25-0.5 hours

⚠️ Safety & Precautions

  • ⚠️ Don’t let the bare wiper arm snap onto the windshield; it can crack the glass.
  • ⚠️ Work with the ignition OFF and wipers OFF.
  • 🧤 Wear gloves if the wiper arms have sharp edges.

🔧 Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Safety glasses
  • Nitrile gloves
  • Microfiber towel

🔩 Required Parts

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:

  • Front wiper blades - Driver: 26", Passenger: 16" - Qty: 2

📋 Before You Begin

  • Park your Corolla on level ground and turn the ignition OFF.
  • Place a microfiber towel on the lower windshield area as a cushion in case the arm drops.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Lift the driver-side wiper arm

  • Use your hands to lift the wiper arm away from the windshield until it stays up.
  • Set the microfiber towel on the glass under the arm.

Step 2: Remove the old blade from the J-hook

  • At the center where the blade meets the arm, find the “J-hook” connection (it looks like a hook).
  • Press the small release tab on the blade connector using your fingers.
  • While holding the tab, slide the blade down and away from the hook to unclip it.
  • Hold the arm firmly the whole time.

Step 3: Install the new driver-side blade

  • Confirm you’re using the 26" blade.
  • Hook the new blade connector into the J-hook and slide it upward until it clicks/locks.
  • Gently tug the blade to confirm it’s locked in place.

Step 4: Lower the driver-side wiper arm

  • Use your hand to carefully lower the arm back onto the windshield.
  • Remove the microfiber towel.

Step 5: Repeat on the passenger side

  • Lift the passenger-side arm and use the same method to remove/install the blade.
  • Confirm you’re using the 16" blade on the passenger side.

✅ After Repair

  • Turn the ignition ON and run the front wipers on LOW for 10–15 seconds.
  • Use the washer spray and confirm both blades wipe cleanly with no streaks or chatter.
  • If a blade streaks, wipe the rubber edge with a clean, damp microfiber towel and re-test.
