šŸ”§ Accord - Front Windshield Wiper Blade Replacement

You’ll be replacing the rubber wiper blade assemblies on your Accord’s driver and passenger arms. Worn blades cause streaking, chatter, and poor visibility, especially in rain.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 10-20 minutes

āš ļø Safety & Precautions

  • āš ļø Keep the wiper arms from snapping onto the glass; it can crack the windshield.
  • āš ļø Do not turn the wipers on while a blade is removed.
  • āš ļø Work with the ignition OFF and wipers switched OFF.

šŸ”§ Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Clean shop towel
  • Painter’s tape
  • Step stool
  • Nitrile gloves
  • Safety glasses

šŸ”© Required Parts

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:

  • Front wiper blades - Driver: 26", Passenger: 19" - Qty: 2

šŸ“‹ Before You Begin

  • Park on level ground and turn the ignition OFF.
  • Wipe the windshield edge area clean with a towel so you don’t drag grit under the new blades.
  • Put painter’s tape on the windshield where each blade rests as a reference point.

šŸ”Ø Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Lift the driver-side wiper arm

  • Use a clean shop towel to protect the glass where the arm could touch.
  • Lift the wiper arm away from the windshield until it stays up.
  • Hold the arm firmly at all times.

Step 2: Remove the old blade from the J-hook

  • Your Accord uses a J-hook connector (a hook-shaped end of the metal arm that ā€œhangsā€ the blade).
  • Rotate the blade so it sits roughly perpendicular to the arm.
  • Press the small release tab on the blade (use your fingers while wearing nitrile gloves), then slide the blade down and off the hook.
  • Set the old blade aside.

Step 3: Install the new driver-side blade (26")

  • Confirm you have the 26" blade for the driver side.
  • Slide the new blade’s connector onto the J-hook until it clicks/locks.
  • Gently tug the blade to confirm it’s fully latched.

Step 4: Lower the driver-side arm carefully

  • Guide the arm down slowly until the blade rests on the windshield.
  • Keep the clean shop towel between the arm and glass until it’s fully down.

Step 5: Repeat on the passenger side (19")

  • Lift the passenger arm and protect the glass with the clean shop towel.
  • Remove the old blade by pressing the release tab and sliding it off.
  • Install the new 19" blade until it clicks, then gently tug to verify it’s locked.
  • Lower the arm slowly onto the glass.

Step 6: Clean the glass and do a quick function check

  • Remove the painter’s tape.
  • Use the clean shop towel to wipe any fingerprints off the blades and windshield.
  • Turn the ignition ON and briefly run the wipers with washer fluid.

āœ… After Repair

  • Verify both blades wipe smoothly without streaking or skipping.
  • If you see streaks, clean the windshield again; oily film can make brand-new blades streak.
  • If one blade ā€œflipsā€ or chatters, recheck that the connector fully clicked onto the J-hook.
