🔧 Tundra - Front Windshield Wiper Blade Replacement
Your Tundra uses a 26-inch driver-side blade and a 22-inch passenger-side blade with standard J-hook connections. Replacing both blades restores clear visibility and helps prevent windshield scratches.
Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 10-15 minutes
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- Turn the ignition off before lifting the wiper arms.
- Replace one blade at a time so the other arm provides a position reference.
- Never release a raised, bare wiper arm. The spring-loaded arm can strike and crack the windshield.
- Battery disconnection is not required.
🔧 Required Tools
You'll need the following tools for this repair:
- Medium microfiber towel
- Nitrile work gloves
- Safety glasses

Replace both front blades as a pair.
📋 Before You Begin
- Park your Tundra on level ground and switch the ignition completely off.
- Make sure the new blades include standard J-hook adapters. A J-hook is the curved end of the wiper arm that locks into the blade.
- Clean loose dirt from the lower windshield with a medium microfiber towel.
- No infotainment setting, scan tool, or wiper service mode is required.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Protect the Windshield
- Put on nitrile work gloves and safety glasses.
- Place a folded medium microfiber towel on the windshield beneath the driver-side blade.
- The towel provides protection if the spring-loaded arm slips.
Step 2: Raise the Driver-Side Wiper Arm
- Use your hands to lift the driver-side arm away from the windshield until it remains raised.
- Do not pull sideways or twist the metal arm.
Step 3: Remove the Driver-Side Blade
- Rotate the blade until it sits nearly perpendicular to the arm.
- Use your thumb to press the small plastic release tab where the blade meets the J-hook.
- While holding the tab, slide the blade downward toward the base of the arm.
- Guide the blade around the open end of the hook and remove it.
- Carefully rest the bare arm on the folded medium microfiber towel.
- Never leave the bare arm standing unattended.
Step 4: Install the 26-Inch Driver-Side Blade
- Use your hands to hold the 26-inch blade with its adapter opening facing the J-hook.
- Pass the hook through the large opening in the blade adapter.
- Slide the blade upward into the hook until the locking tab clicks.
- Pull gently in the opposite direction to verify that the adapter is locked.
- Rotate the blade so it lies parallel with the metal arm.
Step 5: Lower the Driver-Side Arm
- Use both hands to support the arm and slowly lower the blade onto the windshield.
- Remove the medium microfiber towel only after the blade is resting securely on the glass.
Step 6: Replace the Passenger-Side Blade
- Place the folded medium microfiber towel beneath the passenger-side blade.
- Use your hands to raise the passenger-side arm.
- Press the adapter release tab and slide the old blade downward and out of the J-hook.
- Fit the 22-inch passenger-side blade into the hook and slide it upward until it clicks.
- Pull gently on the blade to confirm that it is locked.
- Use both hands to lower the arm slowly onto the windshield.
Step 7: Check Blade Position
- Use your hands to confirm both rubber wiping edges lie flat against the windshield.
- Verify that neither blade is reversed, loose, or touching the windshield trim.
- No fasteners or torque specifications apply to this replacement.
✅ After Repair
- Remove the protective covers from the rubber edges if the new blades have them.
- Start your Tundra and spray windshield-washer fluid.
- Run the wipers at low speed and watch at least three complete passes.
- Stop immediately if a blade becomes loose, strikes the trim, or fails to move smoothly.
- Clean the windshield with a medium microfiber towel if the new blades leave streaks.
