📋 Before You Begin
- 🅿️ Park your Tahoe on level ground and switch off the ignition.
- 🧼 Clean dirt and ice from the windshield before lifting the arms.
- 📏 Compare each new 22-inch blade with the old blade before installation.
- 🔌 No infotainment setting, scan tool, service mode, or battery disconnect is needed.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Protect the Windshield
- Put on the ANSI Z87.1 safety glasses and cut-resistant work gloves.
- Use the 16-inch microfiber towel to cover the windshield directly beneath the driver-side wiper arm.
- This prevents expensive windshield damage.
Step 2: Raise the Driver-Side Wiper Arm
- Use your gloved hands to lift the driver-side wiper arm away from the glass until it stays raised.
- Hold the metal arm securely. Do not release it while the blade is removed.
Step 3: Remove the Old Driver-Side Blade
- Use your gloved hands to rotate the blade until it sits nearly perpendicular to the metal arm.
- Find the small locking tab where the blade connects to the arm. This tab keeps the blade attached to the arm’s curved hook.
- Press the locking tab with your gloved thumb while sliding the blade toward the base of the wiper arm.
- Guide the arm’s hook through the blade opening and remove the old blade.
Step 4: Install the New Driver-Side Blade
- Use your gloved hands to position one new 22-inch wiper blade with its rubber wiping edge facing the windshield.
- Pass the curved hook of the arm through the blade opening.
- Slide the blade toward the outer end of the arm until the connector clicks into place.
- Pull gently in the opposite direction to confirm that the locking tab is engaged.
- No torque specification applies because no threaded fasteners are removed.
Step 5: Lower the Driver-Side Arm
- Use your gloved hands to support the metal arm while removing the 16-inch microfiber towel.
- Lower the blade gently onto the windshield. Never allow the arm to spring downward.
Step 6: Replace the Passenger-Side Blade
- Use the 16-inch microfiber towel to protect the glass below the passenger-side arm.
- Use your gloved hands to lift the arm, rotate the old blade, press its locking tab, and slide it off the hook.
- Install the second new 22-inch wiper blade and slide it into place until it clicks.
- Pull gently on the blade to verify that it is locked, then carefully lower the arm.
Step 7: Inspect Both Blades
- Use your gloved hands to confirm that both blades sit flat against the windshield.
- Check that neither blade is twisted and both connectors are fully locked.
✅ After Repair
- 💧 Spray windshield-washer fluid and operate the front wipers at low speed.
- 👀 Confirm both blades move smoothly and clear the glass without streaking, skipping, or contacting the windshield trim.
- 🛑 Turn the wipers off and verify that they return to their normal parked position.
- 🔍 If a blade feels loose, switch the ignition off and reseat its connector until it clicks.
