- Park your Accord on level ground and set the parking brake.
- Turn the ignition ON and lower the affected front window until the glass mounting bolts are visible through the door access holes.
- If the window will not move, you may need to remove the motor/regulator first while supporting the glass by hand and tape.
- Turn the ignition OFF and keep the key fob away from the vehicle.
- Use painter’s tape 1-inch on the painted door edge and trim edges if you want extra scratch protection.
- Disconnect the negative battery cable using a 10mm socket.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Disconnect the battery
- Open the hood and locate the 12-volt battery.
- Use a 10mm socket and 3/8-inch drive ratchet to loosen the negative battery terminal.
- Move the cable away from the battery post so it cannot touch accidentally.
- Battery off protects electronics.
Step 2: Remove the front door screw covers
- Use a plastic pry tool set to gently open the small cover behind the inside door handle.
- Use the plastic pry tool set to lift the screw cover in the door pull pocket.
- A plastic pry tool is a soft tool that helps prevent scratches on trim.
Step 3: Remove the front door panel screws
- Use a Phillips #2 screwdriver to remove the screw behind the inside door handle.
- Use a Phillips #2 screwdriver to remove the screw in the door pull pocket.
- Place the screws in a magnetic parts tray.
Step 4: Release the door panel clips
- Start at the lower rear corner of the front door panel.
- Use a trim clip removal tool to pry outward near the first clip.
- Work along the bottom and sides with the trim clip removal tool until the clips release.
- A trim clip removal tool is a fork-shaped tool that pops clips loose without tearing the panel.
- Pull near each clip.
Step 5: Lift off the front door panel
- Use both hands to lift the panel straight upward off the window ledge.
- Hold the panel close to the door because wiring and cables are still attached.
- Unplug the power window switch connector by hand.
- Use a pick tool 90-degree gently if a connector lock tab is hard to release.
Step 6: Disconnect the inside handle cable
- Look behind the inside handle area for the cable attached to the handle.
- Use needle-nose pliers 6-inch to rotate the cable end out of the handle lever.
- Release the cable housing from its plastic bracket by hand.
- The cable housing is the outer sleeve that holds the moving cable in place.
Step 7: Peel back the vapor barrier
- Use your fingers and a plastic pry tool set to carefully peel the plastic vapor barrier away from the door.
- Peel it back far enough to access the regulator bolts, glass bolts, and motor connector.
- Do not tear it. This plastic keeps rainwater from entering the cabin.
- Butyl sealant is the sticky black rubber that seals the plastic to the door.
Step 8: Secure the window glass
- Place a glass suction cup handle 4-inch on the glass to help hold and control it.
- Use painter’s tape 1-inch to tape the glass to the upper door frame from both sides of the glass.
- Use several long strips of tape over the top of the door frame.
- Put a shop towel pack between tape and painted areas if you are worried about finish marks.
- Use more tape than less.
Step 9: Remove the glass mounting bolts
- Locate the two glass clamp bolts through the door access openings.
- Use a 10mm socket, 3/8-inch drive extension 6-inch, and 3/8-inch drive ratchet to loosen and remove the two glass bolts.
- Keep one hand on the glass suction cup handle 4-inch while removing the final bolt.
- Carefully slide the glass fully upward by hand if needed, then re-secure it with painter’s tape 1-inch.
Step 10: Disconnect the window motor connector
- Locate the electrical connector at the front window motor.
- Press the connector tab by hand and pull the connector straight off.
- Use a pick tool 90-degree gently if the lock tab is stuck.
Step 11: Remove the regulator and motor bolts
- Use a 10mm socket, 3/8-inch drive extension 6-inch, and 3/8-inch drive ratchet to remove the regulator mounting bolts.
- Use the same 10mm socket to remove the window motor mounting bolts if they are separate from the regulator bolts.
- Support the regulator with one hand as the last bolt comes out.
- Place all bolts in a magnetic parts tray.
Step 12: Remove the old regulator assembly
- Fold or angle the regulator slightly inside the door opening.
- Guide the regulator and motor assembly out through the large access opening.
- Do not force it against the glass, wiring, or sharp door edges.
- Slow movements prevent damage.
Step 13: Compare the new regulator
- Place the old and new regulators side by side.
- Confirm the mounting holes, motor connector, cable routing, and glass clamp positions match.
- If the new regulator did not include a motor, transfer the motor using a Phillips #2 screwdriver or 10mm socket as equipped.
Step 14: Install the new regulator assembly
- Guide the new regulator and motor into the door through the access opening.
- Start all regulator and motor bolts by hand first.
- Use a 10mm socket and torque wrench 5-60 Nm to tighten the regulator and motor mounting bolts.
- Torque to 9 Nm (80 in-lbs).
Step 15: Reconnect the motor and attach the glass
- Plug the motor connector in by hand until it clicks.
- Carefully lower the taped glass by hand into the regulator clamps.
- Use the glass suction cup handle 4-inch to control the glass while aligning the holes.
- Install the two glass mounting bolts by hand.
- Use a 10mm socket and torque wrench 5-60 Nm to tighten the glass mounting bolts.
- Torque to 8 Nm (71 in-lbs).
Step 16: Test the regulator before closing the door
- Reconnect the negative battery cable temporarily using a 10mm socket.
- Reconnect the power window switch connector by hand.
- Turn ignition ON.
- Run the window down and up in short movements.
- Watch that the glass moves smoothly in the front and rear channels.
- If the glass tilts or binds, turn ignition OFF and loosen the glass bolts with a 10mm socket, realign the glass, then retighten to 8 Nm (71 in-lbs).
Step 17: Reset the front auto-up window function
- With ignition ON, use the window switch to lower the window fully.
- Hold the switch DOWN for about 2 seconds after the glass reaches the bottom.
- Raise the window fully.
- Hold the switch UP for about 2 seconds after the glass reaches the top.
- Test auto-up and auto-down operation.
Step 18: Disconnect battery again for reassembly
- Turn ignition OFF.
- Use a 10mm socket to disconnect the negative battery cable again before handling wiring.
Step 19: Reseal the vapor barrier
- Press the vapor barrier back into the butyl sealant by hand.
- Use vapor barrier butyl sealant anywhere the original sealant no longer sticks.
- Make sure the bottom of the vapor barrier is sealed well.
- This prevents water from reaching the carpet and door panel.
Step 20: Reconnect the handle cable and wiring
- Clip the inside handle cable housing into the bracket by hand.
- Use needle-nose pliers 6-inch to guide the cable end into the handle lever.
- Reconnect the power window switch connector by hand.
- Make sure each connector clicks into place.
Step 21: Reinstall the front door panel
- Hang the top of the panel on the window ledge.
- Align the door panel clips with their holes.
- Press around the panel edges with your palm until the clips snap in.
- Replace broken clips with front door panel trim clips.
Step 22: Reinstall screws and covers
- Use a Phillips #2 screwdriver to reinstall the screw behind the inside handle.
- Use a Phillips #2 screwdriver to reinstall the screw in the door pull pocket.
- Snap both screw covers back into place by hand.
Step 23: Reconnect the battery
- Install the negative battery cable onto the battery post.
- Use a 10mm socket and torque wrench 5-60 Nm to tighten the terminal nut.
- Torque to 5 Nm (44 in-lbs).

- Test the front window from the driver master switch.
- Test the affected door’s own window switch.
- Confirm auto-up, auto-down, and pinch protection work correctly.
- Check that the door locks, mirror switch, and speaker work if their connectors were disturbed.
- Spray a light amount of water on the outside glass area and check inside the door panel area for leaks.
- Listen for rattles while closing the door. A rattle usually means a loose clip, bolt, or cable.
