🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Remove the window-switch panel
- Use a plastic trim-removal tool at the front notch of the switch panel.
- Work gently around the panel until its clips release. Don’t lever against the soft trim with a metal screwdriver.
- Lift the panel only far enough to reach the electrical connectors.
- Press each connector lock with a small pick tool and unplug the switch panel.
- Set the panel on a clean towel. Plastic clips prefer patience over horsepower.
Step 2: Remove the door-panel fastener
- Use a Phillips No. 2 screwdriver to remove the exposed screw beneath the switch-panel opening.

Step 3: Release the door panel
- Insert a plastic trim-removal tool between the lower door panel and metal door.

- Lift the complete panel upward to disengage its top edge from the window ledge.
- Support the panel while disconnecting the courtesy-light, speaker, and remaining switch connectors.

Step 4: Open the moisture barrier
- Use a plastic razor scraper to separate the moisture barrier from its black butyl adhesive.
- Peel back only the area required to reach the regulator, motor connector, and glass fasteners.
- Don’t tear the barrier or block the drain openings at the bottom of the door.
Step 5: Secure the window glass
- Confirm both glass-to-regulator bolts are visible through the service openings.
- Apply three or four long strips of 2-inch-wide painter’s tape from the outside glass, over the upper frame, and onto the inside glass.
- Press the tape firmly onto clean, dry glass.
- Have a helper hold the glass if the regulator has already failed and the glass won’t remain positioned.
Step 6: Detach the glass
- Use a 10mm socket, 6-inch extension, and 1/4-inch drive ratchet to loosen the two glass-clamp bolts.
- Remove the bolts while maintaining support on the glass.
- Slide the glass fully upward by hand and add fresh tape to hold it securely.
- Don’t overtighten these bolts during installation. Excess force can damage the glass or its mounting tabs.
Step 7: Disconnect the regulator
- Press the locking tab and unplug the window-motor electrical connector.
- Use a 10mm socket and 1/4-inch drive ratchet to remove the regulator and motor mounting bolts.
- Support the assembly while removing the final bolt so it doesn’t fall inside the door.
- Note the original rail orientation and cable routing before moving the assembly.
Step 8: Remove the old assembly
- Fold or rotate the regulator rails inside the door cavity without bending them against the glass.
- Guide the regulator and motor through the largest service opening.
- Inspect the bottom of the door and remove broken cable pieces or loose hardware.
- Confirm the window guides and weatherstrips remain properly seated.
Step 9: Transfer the window motor if required
- Compare the new assembly with the old regulator before transferring anything.
- If the replacement doesn’t include a motor, place the old regulator flat on a workbench.
- Use the correctly sized socket or screwdriver supplied by the motor fasteners to remove the motor.
- Keep hands clear of cable drums or spring-loaded sections.
- Install the motor on the new regulator in the same orientation and tighten its fasteners evenly.
Step 10: Install the new regulator
- Guide the new regulator through the service opening without twisting its cables.
- Align the rails and motor with their original mounting points.
- Start every bolt by hand before tightening any one bolt fully.

Step 11: Reattach the glass
- Carefully lower the supported glass into the regulator lift brackets.
- Check that the glass remains inside both front and rear guide channels.
- Install both glass-clamp bolts by hand through the access openings.
- Use a 10mm socket and inch-pound torque wrench to tighten them evenly and gently.
- If an exact fastener specification isn’t included with the replacement assembly, don’t exceed snug hand-tool pressure.
Step 12: Test the mechanism
- Temporarily reconnect the switch panel and the negative battery terminal using a 10mm socket.
- Turn the ignition on and operate the window in short movements.
- Watch the glass from inside the open door. Stop immediately if it tilts, binds, clicks, or leaves a guide channel.
- Run the glass nearly closed and confirm the front and rear edges rise evenly.
- Switch the ignition off and disconnect the negative battery terminal again before final assembly.
Step 13: Reseal the moisture barrier
- Press the original barrier firmly back into its butyl adhesive.
- Use additional door moisture-barrier butyl sealant anywhere the original adhesive no longer seals.
- Close every gap along the sides and bottom. Water leaks here usually appear as a wet carpet later.
- Keep wiring routed through its original openings without pinching it.
Step 14: Reinstall the door panel
- Reconnect the interior-handle cables and all electrical connectors.
- Hang the upper door-panel edge over the window ledge.
- Align every retaining clip with its corresponding hole.
- Press directly over each clip using the palm of your hand until it seats.
- Replace any broken clips rather than forcing the panel flat.
Step 15: Reinstall the switch panel
- Use a Phillips No. 2 screwdriver to reinstall the door-panel screw until snug.
- Reconnect the switch-panel plugs and confirm their locks engage.
- Align the panel clips and press the switch panel down evenly.
- Reconnect the negative battery terminal using a 10mm socket.
Step 16: Repeat on the opposite front door
