📋 Before You Begin
- Park your Pilot on level ground and turn the ignition off.
- Start with one front door. Do not disassemble both doors at the same time.
- If the window still moves, raise or lower it until the glass mounting bolts line up with the access holes in the door.
- If the window is stuck, you may need to move the glass by hand after removing the door panel.
- Use painter’s tape to protect the top of the door frame and to hold the glass later.
- A regulator is the mechanism that lifts and lowers the window glass.
- Butyl sealing tape is sticky rubber tape used to reseal the plastic moisture barrier inside the door.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Position the Window Glass
- Turn the ignition ON without starting the engine.
- Use the window switch to move the glass until the two glass mounting bolts are visible through the access holes.
- Turn the ignition OFF.
- If the regulator is broken and the glass will not move, continue carefully and reposition the glass by hand after the door panel is removed.
- Tip: Work slowly around glass.
Step 2: Disconnect the Battery
- Use a 10mm socket and ratchet wrench to loosen the negative battery terminal clamp.
- Lift the negative cable off the battery post and move it aside so it cannot touch the post.
- Wait 3 minutes before unplugging door wiring.
Step 3: Remove the Front Door Screw Covers
- Use a plastic pick tool to remove the small cover behind the inside door handle.
- Use a plastic pick tool to remove the screw cover in the door pull pocket if fitted.
- Use a Phillips #2 screwdriver to remove the exposed screws.
Step 4: Remove the Front Door Switch Panel
- Use a trim removal tool set to gently lift the power window switch panel upward.
- Use a small flathead screwdriver to press each connector lock tab.
- Unplug the electrical connectors by pulling on the connector bodies, not the wires.
Step 5: Remove the Front Door Trim Panel
- Use panel clip removal pliers or a trim removal tool set at the lower edge of the trim panel.
- Pull outward with steady pressure to release the bottom and side clips.
- Lift the trim panel straight upward to unhook it from the window ledge.
- Support the panel while disconnecting remaining connectors and the inner handle cable.
Step 6: Disconnect the Inner Handle Cable
- Use needle-nose pliers to rotate the inner handle cable retainer out of its bracket.
- Lift the cable end out of the handle lever by hand.
- Set the door trim panel on a clean surface.
Step 7: Peel Back the Vapor Barrier
- Use a plastic pick tool to slowly separate the vapor barrier from the black butyl sealer.
- Peel back enough of the barrier to access the regulator, motor connector, and glass bolts.
- Use nitrile gloves because the butyl sealer is very sticky.
- Do not tear the vapor barrier. It keeps rainwater out of the cabin.
Step 8: Support the Window Glass
- Install a suction cup glass holder on the outside of the window glass if the glass is still in its tracks.
- Use painter’s tape to tape the glass to the upper door frame in several vertical strips.
- If the glass is loose, raise it carefully by hand and tape it securely at the fully closed position.
- Do not rely on tape alone if the glass feels heavy or unstable.
Step 9: Remove the Glass Mounting Bolts
- Use a 10mm socket and ratchet wrench to loosen the two glass-to-regulator bolts through the door access openings.
- Remove the bolts while holding the glass steady with your other hand.
- If space is tight, use a 10mm combination wrench.
- Leave the glass taped fully up in the door frame.
Step 10: Unplug the Window Motor
- Use a small flathead screwdriver to press the window motor connector lock tab.
- Pull the connector straight off the motor by the connector body.
- Do not pull on the wires.
Step 11: Remove the Regulator Assembly
- Use a 10mm socket and ratchet wrench to remove the regulator mounting bolts from the door.
- Use a 10mm socket and ratchet wrench to remove the motor mounting bolts if the motor is attached separately to the door.
- Hold the regulator assembly with one hand as the last bolt is removed.
- Fold the regulator slightly and guide it out through the large door opening.
- Tip: Note cable routing before removal.
Step 12: Transfer the Window Motor if Needed
- If the new regulator does not include a motor, place the old regulator on a bench.
- Use a Phillips #2 screwdriver or 10mm socket, depending on the fastener style, to remove the motor from the old regulator.
- Install the motor onto the new regulator in the same position.
- Use a torque wrench to tighten the motor bolts to Torque to 8 Nm (71 in-lbs).
Step 13: Install the New Regulator
- Guide the new regulator assembly into the door through the large access opening.
- Align the regulator rails and motor with their mounting holes.
- Start all bolts by hand first to avoid cross-threading.
- Use a 10mm socket and torque wrench to tighten the regulator mounting bolts to Torque to 10 Nm (7 ft-lbs).
- Use a 10mm socket and torque wrench to tighten the motor mounting bolts to Torque to 8 Nm (71 in-lbs) if separate.
Step 14: Reconnect the Window Motor Temporarily
- Push the window motor connector onto the motor until it clicks.
- Use a 10mm socket to temporarily reconnect the negative battery cable.
- Plug in the window switch panel by hand.
- Turn the ignition ON without starting the engine.
- Briefly move the regulator until the glass mounting points line up with the access holes.
- Turn the ignition OFF and disconnect the negative battery cable again with a 10mm socket.
Step 15: Attach the Glass to the Regulator
- Carefully remove enough painter’s tape to lower the glass by hand onto the regulator clamps.
- Align the glass holes with the regulator mounting points.
- Install the two glass mounting bolts by hand.
- Use a 10mm socket and torque wrench to tighten the glass mounting bolts to Torque to 8 Nm (71 in-lbs).
- Remove the suction cup glass holder after the bolts are tight.
Step 16: Test Window Operation Before Reassembly
- Use a 10mm socket to temporarily reconnect the negative battery cable.
- Plug in the window switch panel by hand.
- Turn the ignition ON without starting the engine.
- Run the window fully down and fully up while watching for smooth movement.
- Listen for grinding, clicking, or binding.
- If the glass tilts or binds, stop and recheck glass alignment and regulator bolts.
- Turn the ignition OFF and disconnect the negative battery cable again with a 10mm socket before reassembly.
Step 17: Reseal the Vapor Barrier
- Press the vapor barrier back into the original butyl sealer by hand.
- Use vapor barrier butyl sealing tape to repair any loose or missing seal areas.
- Use a plastic pick tool to guide the barrier around wiring and cable openings.
- Make sure the lower edge is sealed fully to prevent water leaks.
Step 18: Reinstall the Front Door Trim Panel
- Reconnect the inner handle cable by hand and lock the retainer with needle-nose pliers.
- Reconnect all door trim electrical connectors by hand until each clicks.
- Hang the top of the trim panel over the window ledge.
- Align the trim clips with their holes.
- Press around the panel edges by hand until each clip snaps in.
- Replace any broken door trim panel clips before final installation.
Step 19: Reinstall Screws and Switch Panel
- Use a Phillips #2 screwdriver to reinstall the door trim screws.
- Snap the screw covers back into place by hand.
- Press the power window switch panel down until it clips into place.
Step 20: Reconnect the Battery
- Use a 10mm socket and torque wrench to tighten the negative battery terminal to Torque to 5 Nm (44 in-lbs).
- Do not overtighten the battery clamp.

- ✅ Reset the front auto window function if needed.
- ✅ Turn ignition ON, lower the repaired window fully, then raise it fully and hold the switch up for about 2 seconds.
- ✅ Test AUTO up and AUTO down from the driver switch.
- ✅ Test the passenger window from its own switch and from the driver master switch.
- ✅ Confirm the window seals evenly at the top with no wind gap.
- ✅ Check that the door locks, mirror switch, and speaker work after reassembly.
