🔧 Front Window Regulator - Replacement
The front window regulator moves the glass up and down inside the door. On your Equinox, the door panel, switch area, and vapor barrier must be removed to access it, then the regulator and motor assembly can be swapped out and reinstalled.
Difficulty Level: Intermediate | Estimated Time: 2-4 hours per front door
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- Disconnect the negative battery cable before starting. The door has side airbag wiring and power window circuits.
- Support the window glass with tape before removing the regulator so the glass does not drop.
- Be careful around the side curtain/door airbag area. Do not probe yellow connectors.
- The window motor and regulator can pinch fingers. Keep hands clear while moving the glass.
- If the door has a moisture barrier, do not tear it. Reinstall it fully to prevent water leaks.

Step 1: Disconnect power

- Lift the door panel upward to release it from the window sill.
- Disconnect the electrical connectors for the switch panel and any courtesy light.

- Set it aside where it stays clean.
Step 4: Secure the window glass
- If the glass is movable, raise it by hand and secure it to the door frame with painter's tape.
- Make sure the glass cannot fall when the regulator is removed.
Step 5: Disconnect the regulator from the glass
- Use a 10mm socket to remove the glass clamp fasteners through the access openings in the door.
- Support the glass with one hand while loosening the fasteners.
- Leave the glass taped in place once free from the regulator.
Step 6: Remove the regulator and motor assembly

- Disconnect the battery again before reinstalling the panel if needed.
Step 10: Reinstall the moisture barrier and door panel
- Press the vapor barrier back into place or apply new butyl tape where needed.
- Reconnect the door switch and light connectors.
- Hang the door panel on the upper ledge, then press the clips in with firm hand pressure.
