🔧 Altima - Front Turn Signal Bulb Replacement
The front turn signal bulbs on your Altima are located inside the headlamp assemblies. On this model, access is usually through the front wheel well splash shield, so you’ll turn the front wheels and move the liner aside to reach the bulb socket.
Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 20-40 minutes
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- ⚠️ Park on level ground, shift to Park, and set the parking brake before starting.
- ⚠️ Let the bulbs cool if the lights were recently on; bulbs and housings can get hot.
- ⚠️ Turn the headlight switch fully OFF before removing any bulb socket.
- ⚠️ Do not touch the glass part of the new bulb with bare fingers; skin oil can shorten bulb life.
- ⚠️ Battery disconnect is not normally required for this bulb replacement.

📋 Before You Begin
- 🅿️ Park your Altima on a flat surface with the front wheels accessible.
- 🛞 Place wheel chocks behind the rear wheels so the car cannot roll.
- 💡 Turn all exterior lights OFF and remove the key from the vehicle.
- 🧤 Put on nitrile gloves and safety glasses.
- 🔎 A trim clip remover is a small fork-shaped tool used to lift plastic clips without breaking them.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Turn the Front Wheels for Access
- Use the steering wheel to turn the front wheels away from the side you are working on.
- For the driver-side bulb, turn the wheel fully right.
- For the passenger-side bulb, turn the wheel fully left.
- This opens space inside the front wheel well so you can reach the rear of the headlamp.
Step 2: Remove the Wheel Well Fasteners
- Use a flat trim clip remover to lift the center pin of the plastic push clips in the front inner fender liner.
- Use a flathead screwdriver if a clip center is tight, but pry gently so it does not snap.
- Use a Phillips #2 screwdriver to remove any Phillips screws holding the front edge of the liner.
- If equipped with a small bolt at the liner or lower splash shield, use a 10mm socket and 1/4-inch ratchet to remove it.
- Keep clips in a cup.
Step 3: Pull the Fender Liner Back
- Use your hands to gently pull the front part of the wheel well liner rearward.
- Do not fold it sharply; just move it enough to get your hand behind the front bumper/headlamp area.
- Use a flat trim clip remover to release any extra clip that blocks access.
Step 4: Locate the Front Turn Signal Socket
- Look behind the headlamp assembly through the wheel well opening.
- The front turn signal socket is the bulb socket that twists into the headlamp housing near the outer/front portion of the lamp.
- A socket is the plastic holder that locks the bulb into the lamp housing and connects it to the wiring.
- Use a flashlight if needed; if you use one, hold it by hand and avoid pulling on wiring.
Step 5: Remove the Old Bulb Socket
- Grip the turn signal socket by hand.
- Turn the socket counterclockwise about a quarter turn until it unlocks.
- Pull the socket straight out of the headlamp housing.
- Do not pull on the wires.
Step 6: Replace the Bulb
- Put on nitrile gloves before handling the new bulb.
- Pull the old bulb straight out of the socket by hand.
- Push the new front turn signal bulb straight into the socket until fully seated.
- If the bulb does not slide in easily, rotate it 180 degrees and try again.
- Do not force the bulb.
Step 7: Test the New Bulb Before Reassembly
- Keep the bulb socket hanging safely outside the housing.
- Turn the ignition to ON without starting the engine.
- Activate the turn signal for the side you replaced.
- Confirm the bulb flashes normally.
- Turn the signal and ignition OFF before continuing.
Step 8: Reinstall the Socket
- Insert the bulb and socket into the headlamp housing by hand.
- Turn the socket clockwise about a quarter turn until it locks.
- Make sure it sits flush; a loose socket can let moisture into the headlamp.
Step 9: Reinstall the Wheel Well Liner
- Move the wheel well liner back into its original position by hand.
- Install the plastic push clips by pushing the outer clip body into the hole, then pressing the center pin flush.
- Use a Phillips #2 screwdriver to reinstall any Phillips screws.
- Use a 10mm socket and 1/4-inch ratchet to reinstall any 10mm bolts.
- Snug the screws and bolts only; the liner is plastic and can crack if overtightened.
Step 10: Repeat for the Other Side
- If replacing bulbs in pairs, turn the steering wheel the opposite direction.
- Repeat the same steps on the other side using the flat trim clip remover, Phillips #2 screwdriver, and 10mm socket.
✅ After Repair
- ✅ Test the left and right turn signals from outside the vehicle.
- ✅ Test the hazard lights to confirm both front bulbs flash correctly.
- ✅ Make sure there is no rapid blinking; rapid blinking usually means a bulb is not seated or the wrong bulb was installed.
- ✅ Check that the wheel well liner is secure and not rubbing the tire.
- ✅ No scan tool reset or infotainment reset is required for this repair.
