🔧 Camry - Front Turn Signal Bulb Replacement
Your Camry’s front turn signal bulbs sit inside the headlight housings. Replacing them is usually a quick job done from under the hood by twisting the bulb socket out, swapping the bulb, and reinstalling it.
Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.3-0.7 hours
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- ⚠️ Let the headlight area cool first; bulbs/housings can get hot.
- ⚠️ Turn ignition OFF and remove the key before working near the radiator fans.
- ⚠️ Don’t touch the new bulb’s glass with bare fingers; skin oils can shorten bulb life.
- ⚠️ Battery disconnect is not required for this repair.
🔧 Required Tools
You'll need the following tools for this repair:
- Nitrile gloves
- Safety glasses
- Small flashlight
- Trim clip removal tool
- Needle-nose pliers
🔩 Required Parts
HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:
- Front turn signal bulb (amber, 7440A) - Replace in pairs - Qty: 2
📋 Before You Begin
- Park on level ground, shift to Park, and set the parking brake.
- Open the hood and support it securely.
- Have your small flashlight ready so you can identify the correct bulb socket.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Confirm the bulb location
- Use a small flashlight to look behind the headlight housing from the engine bay.
- Identify the turn signal socket (it’s a twist-lock socket going into the headlight housing).
- Tip: Turn signals are usually the outer bulb.
Step 2: Create working room if needed
- If access is tight, use a trim clip removal tool to pop up any nearby plastic push-clips on the upper cover/ducting.
- Use needle-nose pliers only if a clip center pin is stubborn; pull gently to avoid breaking it.
- Tip: Set clips aside in a small pile.
Step 3: Remove the turn signal socket
- Put on nitrile gloves and safety glasses.
- Grip the turn signal bulb socket firmly and rotate it counterclockwise about 1/4 turn by hand to unlock it.
- Pull the socket straight back to remove it from the headlight housing.
Step 4: Remove the old bulb from the socket
- Hold the socket in one hand and pull the bulb straight out with your gloved fingers.
- If it’s stuck, gently rock the bulb while pulling; avoid twisting hard.
Step 5: Install the new bulb
- With nitrile gloves on, push the new front turn signal bulb (amber, 7440A) straight into the socket until fully seated.
- If you accidentally touch the glass, wipe it clean before installing.
Step 6: Reinstall the socket
- Insert the socket back into the headlight housing, lining up the tabs.
- Rotate clockwise by hand about 1/4 turn until it stops; hand-tight only (no torque spec—do not over-tighten).
Step 7: Repeat on the other side
- Use the small flashlight and repeat Steps 1–6 for the other front turn signal.
- Tip: Replacing in pairs keeps brightness even.
✅ After Repair
- Turn the ignition to ON (engine can stay off) and test left and right turn signals.
- Verify the bulb flashes normally (not very fast). Fast blinking usually means a bulb isn’t seated or is the wrong type.
- Confirm the socket is fully locked and no warning lights appear.
- Reinstall any covers/clips you removed using the trim clip removal tool.
