🔧 Tucson - Front Turn Signal Bulb Replacement
This repair replaces the front turn signal bulbs on your Tucson. A failed turn signal bulb can cause fast blinking, reduced visibility, and unsafe lane changes, so replace it as soon as possible.
Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 15-30 minutes
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- ⚠️ Turn the ignition off and remove the key before working near the headlamp assemblies.
- ⚠️ Let the bulbs cool before touching the area; bulbs and housings can get hot after use.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Open the Hood
- Use your hand to pull the hood release inside the cabin.
- Use your hand to release the secondary hood latch at the front of the hood.
- Raise the hood and secure it with the prop rod.
Step 2: Locate the Front Turn Signal Bulb Socket
- Use a flashlight if needed and look behind the headlamp assembly.
- The front turn signal bulb socket is mounted at the outer/front corner area of the headlamp housing.
- Look for the socket with wiring leading into the amber turn signal section.
- Work one side at a time.
Step 3: Create Access if Space Is Tight
- Use the 10mm socket, 1/4-inch ratchet, and 6-inch extension to loosen or remove nearby intake duct fasteners if they block access on the driver side.
- Use the Phillips #2 screwdriver to remove small plastic screws if any upper cover or duct panel blocks your hand.
- Use the plastic trim tool to lift plastic clips gently if a cover needs to move.
- Set any fasteners aside in order so they go back in the same place.
- Torque to snug only for plastic/duct fasteners; do not overtighten.
Step 4: Remove the Bulb Socket
- Use your hand to grip the turn signal bulb socket firmly.
- Turn the socket counterclockwise about a quarter turn.
- Pull the socket straight out of the headlamp housing.
- Do not pull on the wires.
Step 5: Remove the Old Bulb
- Use your gloved hand to press the bulb inward slightly.
- Turn the bulb counterclockwise to unlock it from the socket.
- Pull the bulb straight out.
- If the bulb is broken, use safety glasses and nitrile gloves before handling the pieces.
Step 6: Install the New Bulb
- Use nitrile gloves and a clean microfiber cloth to handle the new amber bulb.
- Line up the locating pins on the bulb with the slots in the socket.
- Push the bulb in gently and turn it clockwise until it locks.
- If the bulb does not seat easily, remove it and realign the pins.
- Never force the bulb.
Step 7: Reinstall the Bulb Socket
- Use your hand to insert the bulb socket straight into the headlamp housing.
- Turn the socket clockwise about a quarter turn until it locks.
- Make sure the socket sits flat against the housing seal to keep moisture out.
Step 8: Test the Turn Signal
- Use your hand to switch the ignition to ON without starting the engine.
- Use the turn signal stalk to test the repaired side.
- Use the hazard switch to verify both front turn signals flash correctly.
- If the bulb does not light, turn the ignition off, remove the socket, and reseat the bulb.
Step 9: Repeat on the Other Side
- Use the same steps to replace the opposite front turn signal bulb.
- Replace both bulbs so brightness and flash color match.
Step 10: Reinstall Any Removed Covers or Ducts
- Use the plastic trim tool to align any plastic clips by hand before pressing them into place.
- Use the Phillips #2 screwdriver to reinstall any plastic screws.
- Use the 10mm socket, 1/4-inch ratchet, and 6-inch extension to reinstall any 10mm fasteners.
- Torque to snug only for plastic/duct fasteners; do not overtighten.
✅ After Repair
- ✅ Confirm both front turn signals flash at a normal speed.
- ✅ Confirm the hazard lights work on both sides.
- ✅ Check that both bulb sockets are fully locked into the headlamp housings.
- ✅ Watch for condensation inside the headlamp over the next few days; moisture can mean the socket is not sealed correctly.
