🔧 Edge - Front Turn Signal Bulb Replacement

The front turn signal bulbs on your Edge are accessed from the rear of the headlamp area inside the engine bay and wheel-well side area. You’ll remove the bulb socket, replace the bulb, test operation, and reinstall everything securely.

📋 Before You Begin

• Park your Edge on a level surface with the front wheels straight.
• Shift to Park and set the parking brake.
• Turn the headlamps, turn signals, hazard lights, and ignition off.
• Open the hood and support it securely.
• A plastic trim removal tool is a non-metal pry tool that helps lift clips without scratching or breaking plastic panels.
• Front access can be tighter than rear bulb access, so use a flashlight and work slowly.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Open the Hood and Locate the Headlamp Area

• Use your hand to release the hood latch inside your Edge.
• Open the hood and secure it with the hood support if equipped.
• Use a flashlight to look behind the front headlamp assembly on the side you are replacing.
• The headlamp assembly is the complete front light housing that contains the front lighting bulbs.

Step 2: Check for Direct Rear Access

• Use a flashlight to look for the turn signal bulb socket at the rear of the headlamp assembly.
• The bulb socket is the plastic piece that twists into the headlamp and holds the bulb.
• If you can reach the socket from the engine bay, continue to Step 4.
• If access is too tight, continue to Step 3 to open the front wheel-well liner access area.

Step 3: Open the Wheel-Well Liner Access Area If Needed

• Turn the steering wheel away from the side you are working on to create more room.
• Use a 7mm socket, 1/4-inch drive ratchet, and 6-inch extension to remove the front inner fender liner screws near the headlamp area.
• Use a plastic trim removal tool or flat-blade screwdriver to release any plastic push clips.
• Gently pull the liner back enough to reach the rear of the headlamp.
• The wheel-well liner is the plastic splash shield inside the front fender opening.
• Do not crease the liner sharply.

Step 4: Remove the Turn Signal Bulb Socket

• Use your gloved hand to grip the turn signal bulb socket.
• Turn the socket counterclockwise about a quarter turn.
• Pull the socket straight out of the headlamp assembly.
• If it is tight, use your hand only and rock it gently. Do not pry the socket with a screwdriver.

Step 5: Remove the Old Bulb

• Use your gloved hand to pull the old bulb straight out of the socket.
• If the bulb uses locking tabs, press gently and turn it counterclockwise before removing it.
• Place the old bulb on a clean microfiber towel so it does not roll away or break.

Step 6: Install the New Bulb

• Use nitrile gloves to handle the new front turn signal bulb.
• Push the new bulb straight into the socket until fully seated.
• If the bulb has tabs, align the tabs with the socket slots before locking it in place.
• Do not touch the glass with bare fingers.
• Clean glass bulbs last longer.

Step 7: Test the Bulb Before Reassembly

• Keep the bulb socket safely clear of moving parts and hot parts.
• Turn the ignition to accessory mode.
• Use the turn signal stalk to test the side you replaced.
• Turn the turn signal and ignition back off before continuing.
• If the bulb does not flash, use your gloved hand to remove and reseat the bulb in the socket.

Step 8: Reinstall the Bulb Socket

• Use your gloved hand to insert the socket into the headlamp assembly.
• Turn the socket clockwise about a quarter turn until it locks.
• Make sure the socket sits flat and snug against the headlamp housing.

Step 9: Reinstall the Wheel-Well Liner If Removed

• Use your hands to move the wheel-well liner back into its original position.
• Use a plastic trim removal tool to align any plastic push clips.
• Use a 7mm socket, 1/4-inch drive ratchet, and 6-inch extension to reinstall the liner screws.
• Tighten the screws snugly by hand tool only.
• Torque to 2-3 Nm (18-27 in-lbs)

Step 10: Repeat on the Other Side

• Use the same flashlight, gloves, and hand-access method on the opposite side.
• If needed, use the 7mm socket, 1/4-inch drive ratchet, and 6-inch extension to open the opposite wheel-well liner access area.
• Replace the opposite front turn signal bulb the same way.
• Reinstall any liner screws and tighten to 2-3 Nm (18-27 in-lbs).

✅ After Repair

• ✅ Test the left and right front turn signals.
• ✅ Turn on the hazard lights and confirm both front turn signal bulbs flash evenly.
• ✅ Watch for rapid flashing. Rapid flashing usually means a bulb is not seated correctly or the wrong bulb type was installed.
• ✅ Make sure the wheel-well liner is secure and not rubbing the tire.
• ✅ Close the hood firmly when finished.
• ✅ No scan tool reset or programming is required for this bulb replacement.
