🔧 Rogue - Front Turn Signal Bulb Replacement
You’ll be replacing the front turn signal bulbs in the headlight assemblies on your Rogue. The bulbs twist out from the back of the headlight; access is easiest through the front wheel-well liner.
Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 30-60 minutes
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- 🛑 Park on level ground, set the parking brake, and switch the ignition and lights fully OFF before starting.
- 🧤 Let the engine bay cool if you’ve been driving; parts around the headlight can be hot.
- 🔋 You don’t have to disconnect the battery, but do not work with the turn signals switched ON.
- 💡 Do not touch the glass of new bulbs with bare fingers; skin oil can shorten bulb life.
🔧 Required Tools
You'll need the following tools for this repair:
- 🧰 Floor jack (rated 3-ton minimum)
- 🧰 Jack stands (2-ton or higher, pair)

- 🧰 Phillips #2 screwdriver
- 🧰 Flathead screwdriver (medium size)
- 🧰 Trim clip removal tool (specialty)
- 🧰 Needle-nose pliers

- 💡 Dielectric grease for bulb sockets - Qty: 1 small tube
📋 Before You Begin
- 🚗 Park the Rogue on level ground, set the parking brake, and place wheel chocks behind the rear wheels.
- 🔦 Turn the headlight switch and ignition OFF so the bulbs are cool and there is no power to the circuit.
- 🧰 Position your floor jack and jack stands under the front jacking points if you want extra room in the wheel wells. You can also do this repair with the vehicle on the ground by turning the steering wheel fully to each side.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Set up the vehicle
- Use the wheel chocks behind the rear tires so the Rogue cannot roll.
- Turn the steering wheel fully to the left to work on the right-side bulb first. This opens up space in the right front wheel well.
- If you prefer more room, use the floor jack to lift the front at the center jacking point, then place the Rogue securely on jack stands. Never rely on the jack alone.
Step 2: Remove wheel-well liner fasteners
- A wheel-well liner is the plastic shield inside the wheel area that protects the engine bay from dirt.
- Use the Phillips #2 screwdriver to remove any small screws holding the front portion of the right wheel-well liner near the bumper.
- Use the trim clip removal tool to gently pry out the plastic push clips along the front edge of the liner. If a clip is stubborn, use needle-nose pliers to pull it straight out. Work slowly to avoid snapping clips.
- Pull the loosened section of the liner back toward the tire to create an opening so you can reach the back of the headlight.
Step 3: Locate the front turn signal bulb socket
- Shine your work light or flashlight through the opening you created in the liner.
- The turn signal bulb is in the outer corner of the headlight (toward the side of the car). From behind, look for a small round socket with two wires going into it at that outer corner.
- Confirm you’re at the correct socket by gently moving it; it should be at the very front corner of the headlight assembly.
Step 4: Remove the bulb socket
- Grip the bulb socket housing firmly by hand. Do not pull on the wires.
- Twist the socket about a quarter-turn counterclockwise (left) by hand to unlock it from the headlight. It may be snug but should not need tools.
- Pull the socket straight out of the headlight housing to expose the bulb.
Step 5: Remove the old bulb
- On the Rogue, the front turn signal bulb is typically a wedge-style bulb (it just pushes into the socket).
- Hold the socket with one hand and gently pull the bulb straight out with your other hand. If it’s stuck, wiggle it slightly as you pull.
- Inspect the socket for corrosion or burning. If you see green/white crust or melted plastic, clean lightly and consider replacing the socket later.
Step 6: Install the new bulb
- Before installing, apply a tiny amount of dielectric grease to the metal contacts inside the socket. This helps prevent corrosion.
- Without touching the glass, push the new 7440 amber bulb straight into the socket until it is fully seated. Use clean gloves or a clean cloth if needed.
- Make sure the bulb feels snug and does not wobble.
Step 7: Reinstall the socket into the headlight
- Align the tabs on the bulb socket with the slots in the headlight opening.
- Insert the socket straight into the hole until it sits flush.
- Twist the socket clockwise (right) about a quarter-turn by hand until it stops and feels locked. If it doesn’t seat, remove and realign.
Step 8: Test the new bulb
- Temporarily move the wheel-well liner back into place enough so it doesn’t rub the tire.
- Turn the ignition to ON and activate the right turn signal.
- Walk to the front and confirm the right front turn signal flashes normally (not rapidly). A very fast flash usually means a bulb is out or not connected correctly.
- Turn everything OFF again before final reassembly.
Step 9: Reinstall the wheel-well liner (right side)
- Position the right wheel-well liner back into its original place.
- Reinstall all plastic push clips by hand, pushing them straight in until they click.
- Reinstall any screws with the Phillips #2 screwdriver. Snug them by hand; do not overtighten, or the plastic may crack.
Step 10: Repeat steps for the left side
- Turn the steering wheel fully to the right to create room at the left front wheel well.
- Repeat Steps 2–9 on the left side: remove liner fasteners, access the socket, replace the bulb, test, and reinstall the liner.
Step 11: Final checks and lower the vehicle
- If the Rogue is on jack stands, use the floor jack to lift slightly, remove the stands, and gently lower the vehicle to the ground.
- Do a final test: turn on the hazard lights so both front turn signals flash together, and verify they are equally bright and flashing normally.
✅ After Repair
- 🚦Check all exterior lights: low beams, high beams, parking lights, front and rear turn signals, and brake lights to ensure everything works properly.
- 🔁 If one front bulb was burned out, replacing both ensures even brightness and helps avoid another failure soon.
- 🧽 Wipe any fingerprints or dirt off the headlight lenses so light output stays clear.
