🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Open the Hood
- Use your hand to pull the hood release inside the cabin.
- Use your hand to release the secondary hood latch at the front of the hood.
- Raise the hood and secure it with the hood prop rod.
- Use a flashlight to look behind the headlamp on the side you are repairing.
Step 2: Locate the Front Turn Signal Bulb Socket
- Use the flashlight to find the turn signal bulb socket at the outer/front headlamp area.
- The front turn signal socket is separate from the low-beam and high-beam bulb sockets.
- Look for the socket with the turn signal wiring harness attached.
- Take a phone photo first.
Step 3: Unlock the Bulb Socket
- Use your gloved hand to grip the turn signal bulb socket.
- Turn the socket counterclockwise about a quarter turn.
- Pull the socket straight rearward out of the headlamp housing.
- If the socket is tight, use a clean microfiber towel for extra grip.
- Do not pull on the wires.
Step 4: Remove the Old Bulb
- Use your gloved hand to pull the old bulb straight out of the socket.
- If the bulb is stuck, gently wiggle it while pulling straight out.
- Use a small flat-blade screwdriver only if needed to gently help loosen the bulb base.
- Do not pry hard against the plastic socket.
Step 5: Install the New Bulb
- Use nitrile gloves to handle the new front turn signal bulb.
- Push the new bulb straight into the socket until it seats fully.
- Use a clean microfiber towel to wipe the bulb if the glass was touched.
- Fully seated means no wobble.
Step 6: Reinstall the Bulb Socket
- Use your gloved hand to insert the socket back into the headlamp housing.
- Align the socket tabs with the slots in the lamp housing.
- Turn the socket clockwise about a quarter turn until it locks.
- No torque spec applies because this is a hand-lock bulb socket.
Step 7: Test the Turn Signal
- Use your hand to turn the ignition to accessory or start the engine.
- Use the turn signal stalk to activate the repaired side.
- Check the front lamp from outside the vehicle.
- Use the hazard switch to test both front turn signals if replacing both bulbs.
- If the bulb does not flash, turn the lights off and recheck that the bulb and socket are fully seated.
Step 8: Close the Hood
- Use your hand to remove the hood prop rod and clip it back into place.
- Lower the hood and let it latch securely.
- Pull up gently on the hood to confirm it is latched.
✅ After Repair
- ✅ Confirm the front turn signal flashes at a normal speed.
- ✅ Confirm the rear turn signal on the same side also flashes normally.
- ✅ If the turn signal still flashes rapidly, the bulb may be incorrect, not seated, or there may be a socket/wiring issue.
- ✅ No scan tool reset or infotainment reset is required for this repair.
