🔧 Traverse - Front Turn Signal Bulb Replacement
This repair replaces the front turn signal bulbs in your Traverse. A failed front turn signal bulb can cause fast blinking, a warning message, or reduced visibility to other drivers.

⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- ⚠️ Turn the ignition off and remove the key/fob from the vehicle before starting.
- ⚠️ Let the headlamp area cool down if the lights were recently on.
- ⚠️ Do not touch the glass part of the new bulb with bare fingers; skin oil can shorten bulb life.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Check Which Bulb Is Out
- Use the turn signal stalk to switch on the left and right turn signals one at a time.
- Use a flashlight to look at the front lamp and confirm which side is not flashing.
- Turn the ignition and lights fully off before continuing.
- Fast blinking usually means a bulb is out.
Step 2: Open the Hood
- Pull the hood release inside the cabin.
- Lift the hood and secure it fully.
- Use a flashlight to look behind the front headlamp assembly.
Step 3: Access the Rear of the Headlamp Area
- Use the flashlight to locate the front turn signal bulb socket at the rear/outboard area of the headlamp assembly.
- If the access area is tight, use the 7mm socket, 1/4-inch ratchet, and 6-inch extension to remove any small fasteners holding the nearby upper trim or access shield in the way.
- If a plastic push clip is present, use the flat trim removal tool to gently lift the center pin, then remove the clip.
- Set any fasteners aside in order so they go back into the same locations.
Step 4: Remove the Turn Signal Bulb Socket
- Use your gloved hand to grip the turn signal bulb socket.
- Turn the socket counterclockwise about a quarter turn.
- Pull the socket straight out of the lamp housing.
- Do not pull on the wiring harness.
- Gentle pressure prevents cracked plastic.
Step 5: Remove the Old Bulb
- Use your gloved hand to pull the old bulb straight out of the socket.
- If it feels stuck, gently wiggle it while pulling straight back.
- Inspect the socket for melting, corrosion, or burned contacts.
- If the socket is damaged, the socket should be replaced before installing the bulb.
Step 6: Install the New Bulb
- Use nitrile gloves to handle the new amber front turn signal bulb.
- Push the new bulb straight into the socket until it seats fully.
- Do not twist the bulb unless the bulb design has locking tabs.
- Use a clean cloth to wipe the bulb if bare fingers touched it.
Step 7: Test Before Reassembly
- Hold the socket safely away from moving parts and hot surfaces.
- Switch the turn signal on briefly to confirm the new bulb flashes.
- Turn the ignition and lights off again before reinstalling the socket.
- If it does not work, use your gloved hand to remove and reseat the bulb in the socket.
Step 8: Reinstall the Bulb Socket
- Align the tabs on the socket with the openings in the lamp housing.
- Push the socket straight into the housing.
- Turn the socket clockwise about a quarter turn until it locks.
- Make sure it is snug so water cannot enter the lamp.
Step 9: Reinstall Any Removed Trim or Access Shield
- Use the flat trim removal tool by hand to align any plastic clips.
- Push plastic clips in until seated flush.
- Use the 7mm socket, 1/4-inch ratchet, and 6-inch extension to reinstall any 7mm fasteners removed earlier.
- Tighten small trim fasteners snug only; do not overtighten plastic retainers.
Step 10: Final Function Check
- Use the turn signal stalk to test the repaired side.
- Use the hazard switch to test both front turn signal bulbs together.
- Walk around the front of your Traverse and confirm both front lamps flash normally.
✅ After Repair
- ✅ Confirm the turn signal indicator on the dash blinks at normal speed.
- ✅ Confirm the hazard lights work on both front corners.
- ✅ Check that no trim pieces, clips, or fasteners are left loose.
- ✅ If the bulb still does not work, inspect the bulb socket, wiring connector, and fuse circuit next.
