- 🧴 Open the hood and check the brake fluid reservoir. If it is near MAX, remove a small amount with a clean suction tool before compressing the calipers.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Loosen the Front Lug Nuts
- Use a 19mm lug nut socket and 3/8-inch drive ratchet to loosen each front lug nut about half a turn.
- Do not remove the lug nuts yet.
- Loosen while tires touch the ground.
Step 2: Raise and Support the Front
- Use a floor jack rated 2-ton minimum at the front center jacking point to lift your CR-V.
- Place jack stands rated 2-ton minimum under the front side support points.
- Lower the vehicle gently onto the jack stands.
- Give the vehicle a light push from the side to confirm it is stable.
Step 3: Remove the Front Wheels
- Use the 19mm lug nut socket and 3/8-inch drive ratchet to remove the loosened lug nuts.
- Remove both front wheels and set them flat on the ground.
- Keep the lug nuts together so none get lost.
Step 4: Turn the Steering for Better Access
- Turn the steering wheel so the caliper you are working on points outward.
- For the driver side, turn the wheel left. For the passenger side, turn the wheel right.
- This gives more room to reach the caliper bolts.
Step 5: Remove the Lower Caliper Bolt
- The caliper is the clamp-shaped part that holds the brake pads against the rotor.
- Use a 12mm socket and 3/8-inch drive ratchet to remove the lower caliper slide pin bolt.
- If the slide pin spins, hold it with a 17mm open-end wrench while loosening the bolt.
- A slide pin is a small guide pin that lets the caliper move smoothly as the pads wear.
Step 6: Swing the Caliper Up
- Use your hand to swing the caliper upward from the bottom.
- If it is tight, use a flathead screwdriver gently between the old pad and rotor to create a little space.
- Do not let the caliper hang by the rubber brake hose.
- Protect the hose from stretching.
Step 7: Remove the Old Brake Pads
- Pull the inner and outer brake pads out of the caliper bracket by hand.
- If they are stuck, use a flathead screwdriver to gently pry them free.
- Notice where the wear indicator tab is located so the new pads go in the same style position.
Step 8: Remove and Replace the Pad Hardware
- The pad hardware clips are thin metal clips that the brake pads slide on.
- Use a flathead screwdriver to pop the old hardware clips out of the caliper bracket.
- Use brake cleaner, a brake parts cleaning brush, and shop towels to clean the bracket contact areas.
- Install the new front brake pad hardware clips by pressing them fully into the bracket.
Step 9: Lubricate the Pad Contact Points
- Use high-temperature brake lubricant on the metal contact areas where the pad ears touch the hardware clips.
- Do not put lubricant on the pad friction material or rotor face.
- The friction material is the rough surface that presses against the rotor to stop the vehicle.
- A thin coat is enough.
Step 10: Compress the Caliper Piston
- The piston is the round metal part inside the caliper that pushes the brake pad.
- Place an old brake pad against the caliper piston.
- Use a brake caliper compression tool (specialty) to slowly push the piston fully back into the caliper.
- Watch the brake fluid reservoir while compressing. If fluid gets close to overflowing, remove a small amount with a clean suction tool.
- Compress slowly to protect the brake hydraulic system.
Step 11: Install the New Brake Pads
- Install the new inner and outer brake pads into the caliper bracket by hand.
- Make sure the pad ears sit correctly in the new hardware clips.
- The pads should slide smoothly without forcing them.
- If they bind, remove them and recheck the hardware position.
Step 12: Lower the Caliper
- Swing the caliper back down over the new pads by hand.
- If it will not fit, use the brake caliper compression tool (specialty) again to confirm the piston is fully compressed.
- Do not force the caliper over the pads.
Step 13: Reinstall the Lower Caliper Bolt
- Start the lower caliper slide pin bolt by hand to avoid cross-threading.
- Use a 12mm socket and torque wrench rated 20-100 ft-lbs to tighten the bolt.
- Hold the slide pin with a 17mm open-end wrench if it spins.
- Torque to 37 Nm (27 ft-lbs)
Step 14: Repeat on the Other Side
- Repeat Steps 4 through 13 on the other front brake assembly.
- Always replace front brake pads as a left-and-right pair.
- Do one side at a time.
Step 15: Reinstall the Front Wheels
- Place each wheel back onto the hub by hand.
- Install the lug nuts by hand first.
- Use the 19mm lug nut socket and 3/8-inch drive ratchet to snug the lug nuts in a crisscross pattern.
Step 16: Lower the Vehicle and Torque the Lug Nuts
- Use the floor jack rated 2-ton minimum to lift slightly off the jack stands.
- Remove the jack stands rated 2-ton minimum.
- Lower your CR-V until the tires touch the ground.
- Use the 19mm lug nut socket and torque wrench rated 20-100 ft-lbs to tighten lug nuts in a crisscross pattern.
- Torque to 108 Nm (80 ft-lbs)
Step 17: Pump the Brake Pedal
- Before driving, press the brake pedal several times until it feels firm.
- This moves the caliper pistons back into position against the new pads.
- If you skip this step, the first brake pedal press may go very low.

- ✅ Check the brake fluid level and make sure it sits between MIN and MAX.
- ✅ Start your CR-V and press the brake pedal again. It should feel firm and normal.
