  • 📋 Park your F-150 on firm, level ground. Shift into Park, apply the parking brake, switch off the engine, and place wheel chocks behind both rear tires.
  • 📋 Verify that the replacement rotors match the original rotor diameter and hub opening before dismantling both sides.
  • 📋 Open the hood and inspect the brake-fluid reservoir. If it is near MAX, remove a small amount before compressing the caliper pistons.
  • 📋 No infotainment service mode, scan-tool command, electronic parking-brake retraction, or battery disconnection is required.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Loosen the front wheel nuts

  • Use a 21mm deep socket and 1/2-inch breaker bar to loosen each front lug nut about one-half turn while the tires remain on the ground.
  • Do not remove the lug nuts yet.

Step 2: Raise and support the truck

  • Position the 3-ton floor jack beneath the front crossmember and raise your F-150.
  • Place the 3-ton jack stands beneath the reinforced front frame rails, then lower the vehicle onto them.
  • Gently push the body to confirm that it is stable before removing either wheel.

Step 3: Remove the front wheels

  • Use the 21mm deep socket and 1/2-inch ratchet to remove the lug nuts.
  • Remove both front wheels and slide one wheel beneath the frame as an additional safety measure.

Step 4: Check the brake-fluid level

  • Use the 150mm metric ruler to note the reservoir level.
  • If the fluid is at MAX, use a brake-fluid syringe to remove enough fluid to prevent overflow. Place extracted fluid in the plastic drain pan; never reuse it.

Step 5: Remove the first caliper

  • Turn the steering wheel to improve access to the caliper bolts.
  • Use a 13mm socket and 3/8-inch ratchet to remove the upper and lower caliper guide-pin bolts.
  • If the guide pin turns with the bolt, hold the pin's flats with the appropriately fitting wrench supplied in your tool set while loosening the bolt.
  • Lift the caliper from the bracket. Use a flat-blade screwdriver only for gentle assistance if it is tight.
  • Support the caliper with a brake caliper hanger. A caliper hanger is a hook that supports the caliper without stressing its hose.

Step 6: Remove the old pads and hardware

  • Use a flat-blade screwdriver to remove the inner and outer pads from the bracket.
  • Remove the stainless pad-support clips with the flat-blade screwdriver.
  • Note the orientation of the inner and outer pads before disposal.

Step 7: Compress the caliper pistons

  • Place an old brake pad across both pistons, then use the disc brake piston compressor to press both pistons inward slowly and evenly.
  • Watch the brake-fluid reservoir while compressing the pistons. Remove excess fluid with the brake-fluid syringe if it approaches MAX.
  • Stop if either piston binds, tilts, or leaks. A sticking or leaking caliper must be repaired before continuing.

Step 8: Remove the caliper bracket

  • Use an 18mm or 21mm socket, whichever fits the factory bolt head fully, with the 1/2-inch breaker bar to remove the two caliper-bracket bolts.
  • Remove the bracket and keep its bolts clean.
  • Photograph hardware positions before cleaning.

Step 9: Remove the old rotor

  • Pull off and discard any thin factory assembly clips installed over the wheel studs, using the flat-blade screwdriver.
  • Pull the rotor straight from the hub.
  • If rust holds it in place, strike only the rotor hat between the wheel studs with the dead-blow hammer. Do not strike the studs or hub.

Step 10: Clean the hub and new rotor

  • Use the wire hub-cleaning brush to remove rust from the hub face and center pilot. The rotor must sit completely flat.
  • Spray both friction surfaces of the new rotor with non-chlorinated brake cleaner, then wipe them clean with a lint-free shop towel.
  • Install the rotor over the wheel studs. Temporarily hold it flat with one lug nut installed by hand.

Step 11: Service the caliper bracket

  • Use the stiff nylon cleaning brush and brake cleaner to clean the bracket where the stainless clips sit.
  • Install the new pad-support clips by hand in the same positions as the originals.
  • Remove each guide pin by hand, wipe it clean, and inspect its rubber boot for tears.
  • Apply a thin coating of high-temperature silicone brake lubricant to each smooth guide pin, then reinstall it. Do not use petroleum grease because it can damage the rubber boots.
  • Apply only a very thin film of lubricant beneath the stainless clips where they touch the bracket. Keep all lubricant away from rotor and pad friction surfaces.

Step 12: Reinstall the caliper bracket

  • Position the bracket over the rotor and start both bolts by hand.
  • Use the 50-250 Nm torque wrench and the correctly fitting 18mm or 21mm socket to tighten both bracket bolts to 250 Nm (184 ft-lbs).

Step 13: Install the new pads

  • Slide the new inner and outer pads into the support clips by hand.
  • Confirm that both pads move smoothly in the bracket without binding.
  • Do not touch the pad friction material with greasy gloves.

Step 14: Reinstall the caliper

  • Remove the brake caliper hanger and lower the caliper over the new pads. Make sure the hose is not twisted.
  • Start both guide-pin bolts by hand to avoid cross-threading.
  • Use the 10-80 Nm torque wrench and 13mm socket to tighten the guide-pin bolts to 37 Nm (27 ft-lbs).

Step 15: Repeat on the opposite side

  • Use the same listed tools and repeat Steps 5 through 14 on the other front brake assembly.
  • Compare both completed sides and confirm that every clip, pad, boot, and hose is correctly positioned.

Step 16: Reinstall the wheels

  • Remove the temporary lug nut holding each rotor with the 21mm deep socket.
  • Install each wheel and start all lug nuts by hand.
  • Use the 21mm deep socket and 1/2-inch ratchet to snug the nuts in a star pattern.
  • Raise your F-150 slightly with the 3-ton floor jack, remove the 3-ton jack stands, and lower the tires to the ground.
  • Use the 50-250 Nm torque wrench and 21mm deep socket to tighten the lug nuts in a star pattern to 203 Nm (150 ft-lbs).

Step 17: Restore brake pressure

  • With the engine off, press and release the brake pedal slowly several times until it becomes firm.
  • Do not move your F-150 until the pedal is firm and remains above the floor.
  • Inspect the reservoir and add fresh DOT 3 brake fluid only if needed. Keep the level between MIN and MAX.

✅ After Repair

  • ✅ Check both calipers, hoses, and bleeder screws for brake-fluid leaks.
  • ✅ Start the engine and press the brake pedal. It may drop slightly with power assist, but it must remain firm.
  • ✅ Test the brakes at walking speed in a clear, level area before entering traffic.
  • ✅ Bed in the pads with 8-10 moderate stops from approximately 50 km/h to 10 km/h. Do not stop completely between applications.
  • ✅ Drive for 5-10 minutes afterward without heavy braking to cool the brakes. Avoid hard braking for the first 300 km when safely possible.
  • ✅ Recheck the brake-fluid level and inspect for leaks after the road test.
  • ✅ Recheck wheel-lug torque to 203 Nm (150 ft-lbs) after approximately 80-160 km.
