🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Access the rear lamp area
- Open the liftgate and remove any cargo blocking the side trim panels.
- Use a trim panel tool to gently pull back the small access trim behind each taillight housing.
- Work slowly to avoid breaking clips.
Step 2: Remove the taillight retaining fasteners
- Use a 10mm socket and ratchet to remove the rear lamp retaining nuts from inside the cargo area.
- Set the fasteners aside where they will not get lost.
Step 3: Remove the taillight housing
- Pull the taillight housing straight rearward to release the locating pins.
- If it feels stuck, wiggle it gently while pulling.
- Do not pry on the painted body panel.
Step 4: Replace the bulb in the housing
- Twist the bulb socket counterclockwise by hand to remove it from the housing.
- Pull the old bulb out of the socket.
- Push the new bulb into the socket until it seats fully.
- Reinstall the socket by twisting it clockwise until it locks.
- Match the bulb base to the socket shape.
Step 5: Reinstall the taillight housing
- Align the housing pins with the body openings.
- Press the housing straight into place.
- Install the retaining nuts with the 10mm socket and ratchet.
- Torque to snug only; do not overtighten plastic-mounted hardware.
Step 6: Repeat on the other side
- Repeat the same process on the opposite taillight.
- Replace both bulbs at the same time so the brightness matches.
