🔧 Headlight Bulbs - Replacement
This procedure covers replacing both front headlight bulbs on your Rogue. On this model, the bulbs are accessed from behind the headlamp housings in the engine bay, so you do not need to remove the bumper for a standard bulb swap.
Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.5-1 hour
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- Turn the headlights off and let the bulbs cool before touching anything.
- Do not touch the glass on halogen bulbs with bare fingers. Oil can shorten bulb life.
- If your Rogue has factory HID or LED headlights, bulb replacement is different and this procedure does not apply.
- Disconnecting the battery is not required for a standard halogen bulb swap, but keep the key off while working.

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

📋 Before You Begin
- Park on level ground and set the parking brake.
- Turn the lights off and remove the key or switch the ignition fully off.
- Open the hood and secure it.
- Have both new bulbs ready so you can replace them as a pair.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Access the back of the headlight housing
- Open the hood and locate the rear of each headlight assembly.
- If any plastic intake duct or cover blocks access, remove it with a trim clip tool.
- Work slowly around old plastic clips.
Step 2: Remove the bulb connector and dust cover
- Use your hand to unplug the electrical connector from the bulb.
- If your Rogue has a rear dust cover, twist it counterclockwise by hand to remove it.
- Set the cover aside in a clean spot so dirt does not get inside.
Step 3: Remove the old bulb
- Use your hand to rotate the bulb counterclockwise, then pull it straight out.
- Do not force it. If it feels stuck, wiggle gently while turning.
- Keep the bulb straight as it comes out.
Step 4: Install the new bulb
- Put on clean nitrile gloves before handling the new bulb.
- Insert the new bulb into the housing in the same position as the old one.
- Rotate it clockwise by hand until it is seated.
- Torque spec: No torque wrench required. Hand-tight only.
Step 5: Reconnect everything
- Reconnect the electrical connector by hand until it clicks.
- Reinstall the dust cover by twisting it clockwise until fully seated.
- Reinstall any intake duct or cover removed earlier using the trim clip tool.
Step 6: Repeat on the other side
- Repeat the same process on the other headlight bulb.
- Replace bulbs in pairs so the light output matches.
✅ After Repair
- Turn the headlights on and confirm both bulbs work.
- Check high beam and turn signal operation if you had to move nearby wiring.
- Make sure the beam pattern looks even on a wall or garage door.
- If one bulb does not light, recheck the connector and bulb seating.
