📋 Before You Begin

• 🅿️ Park your Tacoma on level ground and set the parking brake.
• 💡 Turn the headlight switch off and remove the key from the ignition.

• 📌 A bulb connector is the plastic plug with wires attached to the back of the bulb.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Open the Hood

• Use your hand to pull the hood release inside the cabin.
• Use your hand to release the secondary hood latch at the front of the hood.
• Raise the hood and secure it with the hood prop rod.
• Use a flashlight to look behind each headlight assembly.

Step 2: Locate the Driver-Side Low-Beam Bulb

• Stand in front of your Tacoma and look behind the driver-side headlight.
• Use a flashlight to find the low-beam bulb connector at the rear of the headlight housing.
• The low-beam bulb sits in the headlight housing and has a wiring connector plugged into it.
• Take a photo before unplugging.

Step 3: Unplug the Driver-Side Bulb Connector

• Use your fingers to press the connector retaining tab.
• Pull the connector straight rearward off the bulb.
• If the tab is stubborn, use a small flat-blade screwdriver to gently press the tab while pulling the connector.
• Do not pull on the wires.

Step 4: Remove the Driver-Side Bulb

• Use your gloved hand to grip the rear base of the bulb.
• Turn the bulb counterclockwise about a quarter turn.
• Pull the bulb straight out of the headlight housing.
• No torque spec applies because this bulb locks by hand with a twist-lock base.

Step 5: Install the New Driver-Side Bulb

• Use nitrile gloves to handle the new bulb by the plastic base only.
• If you accidentally touch the glass, clean it with a clean microfiber towel before installation.
• Insert the bulb into the headlight housing, matching the tabs to the slots.
• Turn the bulb clockwise until it locks firmly in place.
• No torque spec applies because the bulb is hand-tightened only.
• Do not force the bulb.

Step 6: Reconnect the Driver-Side Bulb Connector

• Use your hand to push the wiring connector straight onto the bulb.
• Listen or feel for the connector tab to click into place.
• Gently tug the connector by the plastic body to confirm it is locked.

Step 7: Replace the Passenger-Side Low-Beam Bulb

• Move to the passenger side and use a flashlight to locate the rear of the headlight housing.
• Use your fingers to press the connector retaining tab.
• Pull the connector straight off the bulb.
• Use your gloved hand to turn the bulb counterclockwise about a quarter turn.
• Pull the bulb straight out.
• Insert the new bulb by aligning the tabs with the housing slots.
• Turn the bulb clockwise until it locks.
• Push the wiring connector back on until it clicks.
• No torque spec applies because the bulb is hand-tightened only.

Step 8: Check Bulb Operation

• Turn the ignition to accessory mode if needed.
• Use the headlight switch to turn on the low beams.
• Walk to the front of your Tacoma and confirm both low beams are working.
• Turn the headlights off after checking.

Step 9: Close the Hood

• Use your hand to return the hood prop rod to its clip.
• Lower the hood carefully.
• Press the hood closed until it latches securely.
