🔧 Headlight Bulb Replacement
Assumption: This guide covers both low-beam headlight bulbs on your Equinox.
Replacing both bulbs at the same time keeps the headlights evenly bright and saves you from doing the job twice. The Equinox has tight access at the back of the headlamp housings, so the job is mostly about reaching the bulbs carefully and avoiding damage to the connector or bulb.
Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.5-1 hour
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- Let the headlamps cool fully before touching them.
- Do not touch the glass on halogen bulbs. Skin oil shortens bulb life.
- Turn the lights off and remove the key before starting.
- If your hands need to reach near sharp body panels, wear gloves.
- No battery disconnect is required for this job.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:

- Move parts aside just enough to reach the bulb cap or connector.
- Keep hardware organized.
Step 2: Remove the old bulb connector
- Use your fingers to release the electrical connector from the bulb.
- If it is tight, gently wiggle the connector straight off without twisting the bulb.
- Do not pull on the wires.
Step 3: Remove the old bulb
- Rotate the bulb counterclockwise by hand to unlock it from the headlamp housing.
- Pull the bulb straight out.
- If equipped with a dust cap, remove it first and set it aside cleanly.
Step 4: Install the new bulb
- Put on gloves before handling the new bulb.
- Insert the new bulb straight into the socket opening.
- Rotate it clockwise by hand until it locks in place.
- Reconnect the electrical connector firmly until it clicks.
- Never touch halogen glass.
Step 5: Repeat on the other side
- Use the same method to replace the bulb on the opposite side.
- Make sure both bulbs are seated the same way.
Step 6: Reassemble and test
- Reinstall any removed ducts or trim pieces using the 10mm socket and ratchet.
- Close the hood.
- Turn the headlights on and verify both bulbs work.
- Check low beam aim against a wall if needed.
