🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Remove the Upper Radiator Cover

• Use the trim clip removal tool to lift the plastic push clips across the top radiator cover.
• If a clip is stubborn, use the flat blade screwdriver 1/4-inch to gently raise the center pin first.
• Lift the plastic cover up and set it aside on a shop towel.
• Keep clips in a cup.

Step 2: Remove the Headlamp Retaining Bolts

• Use the 10mm socket, ratchet handle 3/8-inch drive, and 6-inch extension 3/8-inch drive to remove the upper headlamp bolts.
• Use the 8mm socket where smaller headlamp or bracket fasteners are fitted.
• Support the headlamp with one hand while removing the last bolt so it does not drop or scratch the bumper.

Step 3: Release the Headlamp Assembly

• Pull the headlamp straight forward with both hands.
• Do not twist the housing hard; plastic guide pins can break.
• If it feels stuck, use the trim clip removal tool gently around the rear edge to help release the locator tabs.
• Move the lamp forward only far enough to reach the rear connectors and bulb covers.

Step 4: Disconnect the Headlamp Electrical Connector

• Press the connector lock tab with your thumb.
• If needed, use the flat blade screwdriver 1/4-inch to gently depress the tab while pulling the connector straight back.
• Do not pull on the wires. Pull on the plastic connector body only.

Step 5: Open the Rear Bulb Cover

• Use your gloved hand to rotate the rear dust cover counterclockwise.
• If the cover is tight, use a shop towel for extra grip.
• Remove the cover and inspect the rubber seal. Replace the complete cover or housing if the seal is torn.

Step 6: Remove the Old Bulb or LED Module

• For a twist-lock bulb, rotate the bulb counterclockwise by hand and pull it straight out.
• For a retained LED module, use the 8mm socket or 10mm socket to remove the small retaining screws if equipped.
• Unplug the small bulb/module connector by pressing the release tab and pulling the connector straight off.
• A module is a small removable electrical lighting unit, not just a simple glass bulb.

Step 7: Install the New Bulb or LED Module

• Hold the new bulb/module by the plastic base only while wearing nitrile gloves.
• Plug the connector into the new bulb/module until it clicks.
• Insert the bulb/module into the housing in the same position as the old one.
• Rotate a twist-lock bulb clockwise until it stops.
• If screws are used, install them with the 8mm socket or 10mm socket and tighten snugly. Torque to 2-3 Nm (18-27 in-lbs) if small module screws are present.
• Never force plastic tabs.

Step 8: Reinstall the Rear Bulb Cover

• Install the rear dust cover by hand.
• Rotate it clockwise until fully seated.
• Make sure the seal sits flat all the way around to keep water out of the headlamp.

Step 9: Repeat on the Opposite Side

• Use the same 10mm socket, 8mm socket, ratchet handle 3/8-inch drive, and trim clip removal tool on the other headlamp.
• Replace both sides as a pair so brightness and color match.

Step 10: Test the Headlights Before Final Assembly

• Reconnect the negative battery cable using the 10mm socket.
• Turn the headlight switch ON and check low beams, high beams, turn signals, parking lamps, and daytime running lamps.
• If one side does not work, turn the lights OFF and recheck the connector seating.

Step 11: Reinstall the Headlamp Assemblies

• Slide each headlamp straight back into its guide pins.
• Install the retaining bolts by hand first to avoid cross-threading.
• Use the 10mm socket, 8mm socket, ratchet handle 3/8-inch drive, and torque wrench inch-pound to tighten the headlamp fasteners. Torque to 7-9 Nm (62-80 in-lbs).

Step 12: Reinstall the Upper Radiator Cover

• Place the radiator cover back into position.
• Push the plastic clips into place by hand.
• If needed, use the trim clip removal tool to align the holes before pressing the clips down.

Step 13: Final Battery Cable Check

• Use the 10mm socket and torque wrench inch-pound to tighten the negative battery terminal. Torque to 5-6 Nm (44-53 in-lbs).
• Make sure the cable does not rotate by hand after tightening.
