🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Open the Hood

• Use your hand to pull the hood release inside the cabin.
• Use your hand to lift the hood and secure it with the prop rod.
• Use a flashlight to look behind each headlight housing.

Step 2: Locate the Bulb You Are Replacing

• Use a flashlight to identify the rear of the headlight housing.
• The low beam bulb is the regular nighttime headlight.
• The high beam bulb is the brighter “brights” bulb.
• Replace the same bulb type on both the driver and passenger sides.

Step 3: Make Room on the Driver Side

• Use a 10mm socket, 1/4-inch ratchet, and 6-inch extension to remove any intake duct fasteners blocking access behind the driver-side headlight.
• Use a trim clip removal tool or flat-blade screwdriver to gently lift plastic push clips if equipped.
• Move the intake duct or plastic cover aside carefully.
• Take a photo first.

Step 4: Unplug the Driver-Side Bulb

• Use your fingers to press the release tab on the electrical connector.
• Pull the connector straight back from the bulb.
• If it feels stuck, wiggle the connector by hand. Do not pull on the wires.

Step 5: Remove the Driver-Side Bulb

• Use your gloved hand to turn the bulb counterclockwise about a quarter turn.
• Pull the bulb straight out of the headlight housing.
• Use a clean microfiber towel to set the old bulb down safely.

Step 6: Install the New Driver-Side Bulb

• Use nitrile gloves to hold the new bulb by the plastic base only.
• Line up the tabs on the bulb base with the slots in the headlight housing.
• Push the bulb straight into the housing.
• Turn the bulb clockwise until it locks.
• Use your hand to reconnect the electrical connector until it clicks.
• If you touch the bulb glass, use a clean microfiber towel to wipe it before installing.

Step 7: Make Room on the Passenger Side

• Use a 10mm socket, 1/4-inch ratchet, and 6-inch extension to remove any fastener blocking access behind the passenger-side headlight.
• Use a trim clip removal tool or flat-blade screwdriver to remove any plastic push clips if needed.
• Move covers or ducting aside gently without bending the headlight housing.

Step 8: Unplug the Passenger-Side Bulb

• Use your fingers to press the connector release tab.
• Pull the connector straight rearward from the bulb.
• If it is tight, gently wiggle it by hand while keeping pressure on the release tab.

Step 9: Remove the Passenger-Side Bulb

• Use your gloved hand to turn the bulb counterclockwise about a quarter turn.
• Pull the bulb straight out of the housing.
• Compare the old bulb base to the new bulb base before installation.

Step 10: Install the New Passenger-Side Bulb

• Use nitrile gloves to hold the new bulb by the plastic base.
• Align the tabs with the housing slots.
• Push the bulb straight into the headlight housing.
• Turn the bulb clockwise until it locks in place.
• Use your hand to reconnect the electrical connector until it clicks.

Step 11: Reinstall Removed Covers or Ducting

• Use your hand to reinstall plastic push clips.
• Use a 10mm socket, 1/4-inch ratchet, and 6-inch extension to reinstall any 10mm fasteners.
• Torque small plastic cover fasteners snug only; do not overtighten.
• Check that no wiring is pinched behind the covers.

Step 12: Reconnect the Battery if Disconnected

• Use your hand to place the negative battery cable back onto the battery post.
• Use a 10mm socket and 1/4-inch ratchet to tighten the negative terminal nut.
• Torque to 5 Nm (44 in-lbs).

• ✅ Turn on the low beams and confirm both sides work.
• ✅ Turn on the high beams and confirm both sides work.
• ✅ If one bulb does not light, turn the lights off and recheck that connector.
• ✅ Park facing a wall at night and confirm both beams sit at a similar height.
• ✅ If the battery was disconnected, reset the clock and reinitialize auto window operation if needed.
