• Park your Frontier on level ground and set the parking brake.
• Turn the headlight switch to OFF and remove the key.
• Open the hood and support it securely.
• Stand in front of the truck and look behind each headlight housing. The bulb is accessed from the rear of the headlight assembly.
• A retaining ring is the plastic collar that locks the bulb into the headlight housing.
• Work on one side at a time.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Open the Hood and Locate the Driver-Side Bulb

• Use the hood release inside the cabin, then lift the hood and set the hood prop rod.
• Use a flashlight to look behind the driver-side headlight assembly.
• Find the electrical connector plugged into the rear of the headlight bulb.

Step 2: Unplug the Driver-Side Headlight Connector

• Put on nitrile gloves and safety glasses.
• Press the connector lock tab with your thumb and pull the connector straight back.
• If the connector is tight, use a small flat-blade screwdriver to gently lift the lock tab while pulling the connector rearward.
• Do not pull on the wires.

Step 3: Remove the Driver-Side Retaining Ring

• Use your hand to rotate the plastic retaining ring counterclockwise.
• If it is stuck, use a clean microfiber towel for extra grip.
• Slide the retaining ring rearward off the bulb.
• No torque spec applies. This ring is hand-tight only.

Step 4: Remove the Old Driver-Side Bulb

• Pull the bulb straight out of the headlight housing.
• Notice the bulb alignment tabs. The new bulb must sit in the same position.
• Set the old bulb aside on a clean microfiber towel.
• Do not twist the glass bulb.

Step 5: Install the New Driver-Side Bulb

• Hold the new headlight bulb by the plastic base only.
• Insert the bulb straight into the headlight housing, matching the alignment tabs.
• Make sure the bulb sits flat and fully seated.
• If the glass is touched by accident, wipe it clean with a clean microfiber towel before installing.

Step 6: Reinstall the Driver-Side Retaining Ring

• Slide the retaining ring over the bulb base.
• Use your hand to rotate the ring clockwise until it locks into place.
• Do not use pliers. The ring should be snug by hand only.
• No torque spec applies. Hand-tighten only.

Step 7: Reconnect the Driver-Side Electrical Connector

• Apply a very small amount of dielectric grease to the connector seal area, not onto the bulb glass.
• Dielectric grease is a non-conductive grease that helps keep moisture out of electrical connectors.
• Push the connector straight onto the bulb until it clicks or feels fully seated.
• Lightly tug the connector to confirm it is locked.

Step 8: Replace the Passenger-Side Bulb

• Move to the passenger-side headlight assembly.
• Use the flashlight to locate the bulb connector behind the headlight.
• Repeat Steps 2 through 7 using the same tools and hand-tight process.
• Take your time. Passenger-side access may feel tighter depending on wiring position.

Step 9: Test Both Headlights

• Turn the ignition to accessory or start your Frontier.
• Turn on the low beams and verify both headlights work.
• Switch to high beams and verify both high beams work.
• If one side does not work, turn the lights off and recheck the connector seating.

Step 10: Final Check

• Use the flashlight to confirm both retaining rings are locked.
• Check that no tools or towels are left in the engine bay.
• Close the hood firmly.
