📋 Before You Begin

Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Verify This Is Not a Timing Belt Job

- Your Fusion has an external serpentine belt for accessories, but the engine timing system is an internal chain.
- Do not purchase a timing belt kit for this engine.
- No timing belt is installed.

- Use a 15mm socket, 18mm socket, and 1/2-inch breaker bar to remove the right-side engine mount fasteners.
- Remove only after the engine is safely supported by the engine support bar (specialty).
- Use a 10mm socket and 13mm socket to remove timing cover brackets and small cover fasteners.
- Do not pry against sealing surfaces with metal tools.
Step 9: Remove the Crankshaft Pulley
- Install the crankshaft pulley holding tool (specialty).
- Use a 1/2-inch breaker bar and the correct socket from your set to loosen the crankshaft pulley bolt.
- Use the harmonic balancer puller (specialty) to remove the pulley if it does not slide off by hand.
- Discard the crankshaft pulley bolt if it is torque-to-yield. Torque-to-yield bolts stretch and should not be reused.
Step 10: Remove Valve Cover and Front Timing Cover
- Use a 10mm socket and 1/4-inch ratchet to remove valve cover fasteners.
- Lift the valve cover carefully and remove the old valve cover gasket.
- Use a 10mm socket and 13mm socket to remove front timing cover fasteners.
- Use a gasket scraper carefully to separate old sealant without gouging aluminum.
Step 11: Lock Engine Timing
- Rotate the crankshaft by hand using a 1/2-inch breaker bar until cylinder 1 is at top dead center.
- Top dead center means the piston is at the very top of its travel on the compression stroke.
- Install the Ford 2.0L timing tool set (specialty) to lock the crankshaft and camshafts.
- Do not move the crankshaft or camshafts after the timing tools are installed.
Step 12: Replace Timing Chain Components
- Use a 10mm socket and 13mm socket to remove the timing chain tensioner and guides.
- Remove the old timing chain kit components.
- Install the new timing chain guides, timing chain tensioner, and chain from the timing chain kit.
- Align all timing marks exactly as directed by the timing tool set.
- Torque values vary by fastener and build configuration. Use the Ford service specification for each bolt before tightening.

- Torque wheel lug nuts to 135 Nm (100 ft-lbs)
