🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Warm the Transmission Slightly
- Start the engine and let your TITAN idle for a few minutes.
- Use the brake pedal and shift slowly through P-R-N-D, pausing 2-3 seconds in each position.
- Shift back to Park and shut the engine off.
- Use a scan tool with transmission fluid temperature data if available. Warm fluid drains better, but it should not be burning hot.
- Warm, not hot, is best.
Step 2: Raise and Secure the Truck
- Use a floor jack to lift your TITAN only if you need more room underneath.
- Place jack stands under approved frame support points.
- Use an infrared thermometer or a level visual check to make sure the truck is sitting level front-to-rear and side-to-side.

Step 3: Remove the Underbody Shield if Equipped

Step 4: Locate the Transmission Drain and Fill/Check Plug
- Use a shop towel to wipe dirt from the transmission pan area.
- Identify the drain plug at the transmission pan.
- Identify the fill/check plug on the transmission case or pan area. This is used to add fluid and set the final level.
- Use a 19mm socket or the correct socket from your metric socket set to confirm the fill/check plug can loosen before draining.
- Always loosen fill before drain.
Step 5: Drain the Old Fluid
- Place a 10-quart drain pan under the transmission drain plug.
- Use a 19mm socket or correct-size socket from your metric socket set to remove the drain plug.
- Let the fluid drain until it slows to a drip.
- Use a measuring container with quart markings to measure the amount removed.
- Clean the drain plug with shop towels.
Step 6: Reinstall the Drain Plug
- Install a new transmission drain plug washer.
- Thread the drain plug in by hand first to avoid cross-threading.
- Use a torque wrench with the correct socket to tighten the drain plug: Torque to 34 Nm (25 ft-lbs).

Step 7: Add New Transmission Fluid
- Insert the hose from the fluid transfer pump into the fill/check opening.
- Pump in the same amount of Nissan Matic S-compatible automatic transmission fluid that you drained out.

- Temporarily install the fill/check plug finger-tight.

Step 8: Circulate the New Fluid
- Start the engine while your TITAN is still level and safely supported.
- Keep your foot on the brake pedal.
- Move the shifter slowly through P-R-N-D, pausing 2-3 seconds in each gear.
- Return the shifter to Park and leave the engine idling.
- Use the scan tool with transmission fluid temperature data to monitor fluid temperature.
Step 9: Set the Final Fluid Level
- With the engine idling and the truck level, monitor transmission fluid temperature with the scan tool.
- When fluid temperature is approximately 35-45°C (95-113°F), remove the fill/check plug using the correct socket from your metric socket set.
- If no fluid comes out, use the fluid transfer pump to add small amounts until fluid begins to trickle from the check opening.
- If fluid flows heavily, let it drain until it becomes a thin stream or drip.
- The correct level is reached when fluid comes out as a small trickle at the specified temperature range.
- Install a new transmission fill/check plug washer.
- Use a torque wrench to tighten the fill/check plug: Torque to 34 Nm (25 ft-lbs).
Step 10: Clean and Reinstall the Shield
- Use brake cleaner and shop towels to clean any spilled fluid from the transmission pan and crossmember.
- Reinstall the underbody shield if removed.
- Use a 10mm socket, 14mm socket, or flat-blade screwdriver to reinstall the fasteners.
- For small shield bolts, tighten gently: Torque to 7-10 Nm (62-89 in-lbs).
Step 11: Lower the Truck
- Use the floor jack to lift slightly off the jack stands.
- Remove the jack stands.
- Lower your TITAN slowly to the ground.
- Remove the wheel chocks after the truck is fully on the ground.
