- Park your HR-V on level ground and set the parking brake.

- A torque wrench tightens bolts to the correct tightness. This helps prevent stripped threads and leaks.
- Record how much old fluid drains out. Refill with the same amount first, then verify level.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Raise and Support the Vehicle
- Use the floor jack to lift the front of your HR-V at the front center jacking point.
- Place jack stands under the proper front support points.
- Keep the vehicle as level as possible. If needed, raise the rear with the floor jack and support it with jack stands.
- Put on safety glasses and nitrile gloves.
Step 2: Remove the Lower Splash Shield
- Use a 10mm socket to remove the splash shield bolts.
- Use a plastic trim clip remover to release the plastic clips.
- Set the splash shield aside.
- Keep clips organized.
Step 3: Locate the CVT Drain Plug
- Slide the drain pan under the transmission case.
- The CVT drain plug is at the bottom of the transmission housing.
- Wipe around the drain plug with clean shop towels so dirt does not enter the area.
Step 4: Drain the Old CVT Fluid
- Use a 3/8-inch drive ratchet to loosen and remove the CVT drain plug.
- Let the fluid drain completely into the drain pan.
- Measure the drained fluid using the measuring jug with quart markings.
- Expect roughly 3.5-4 quarts during a normal drain and refill.
- Measuring prevents overfilling.
Step 5: Clean and Reinstall the Drain Plug
- Remove the old crush washer from the drain plug by hand.
- Clean the drain plug with clean shop towels.
- Install the new CVT drain plug crush washer.
- Thread the drain plug in by hand first to avoid cross-threading.
- Use a 3/8-inch drive torque wrench to tighten the drain plug to 49 Nm (36 ft-lbs).
Step 6: Access the CVT Fill Point
- Open the hood.
- Locate the CVT fluid fill plug/dipstick area on top of the transmission.
- Wipe the area clean with clean shop towels before opening it.
- Remove the fill plug or dipstick by hand.
Step 7: Refill with Honda HCF-2 CVT Fluid
- Place the long-neck transmission funnel into the CVT fill opening.
- Pour in the same amount of Honda HCF-2 CVT fluid that drained out.
- Add slowly to prevent spills.
- Do not overfill. Start with the measured amount only.
- Use HCF-2 only.
Step 8: Cycle the Transmission
- Start the engine with the vehicle still safely supported and level.
- Keep your foot firmly on the brake pedal.
- Move the shifter slowly through P-R-N-D-S-L, pausing 3 seconds in each position.
- Return the shifter to Park.
- Let the engine idle for about 1 minute.
Step 9: Check the Fluid Level
- With the vehicle level, engine warm, and transmission in Park, check the CVT fluid level using the factory fill/dipstick check method on your HR-V.
- Use clean shop towels to wipe the dipstick, reinstall it fully, then remove it again to read the level.
- If low, add Honda HCF-2 CVT fluid in small amounts through the long-neck transmission funnel.
- If overfilled, drain a small amount using the 3/8-inch drive ratchet at the drain plug, then retorque to 49 Nm (36 ft-lbs).
Step 10: Reinstall the Splash Shield
- Use the plastic trim clip remover by hand to align the splash shield clips.
- Push the clips back into place.
- Use a 10mm socket to reinstall the splash shield bolts.
- Tighten the small splash shield bolts snugly. Do not overtighten plastic shield hardware.
Step 11: Lower the Vehicle
- Use the floor jack to lift your HR-V slightly off the jack stands.
- Remove the jack stands.
- Lower the vehicle slowly to the ground.
- Remove the wheel chocks.
✅ After Repair
- Start the engine and let it idle for 1-2 minutes.
- Check underneath for leaks around the CVT drain plug.
- Take a gentle 10-minute test drive. Avoid hard acceleration at first.
- Recheck for leaks after the test drive.
- Reset the maintenance minder if the CVT fluid service was due: use the steering wheel controls to go to Vehicle Settings > Maintenance Info > Reset.
- Dispose of the old CVT fluid properly at a recycling center or parts store that accepts used oil and transmission fluid.
