🔧 Starter Motor - Replacement
The starter on your Sierra is mounted low on the engine near the transmission bellhousing. Replacing it means safely disconnecting power, removing the wiring, unbolting the old unit, and installing the new one in the same position.
Difficulty Level: Intermediate | Estimated Time: 1.5-3 hours
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- Disconnect the negative battery cable before touching the starter wiring. The main starter cable is always hot.
- Support the truck on jack stands before working underneath it. Never rely on a floor jack alone.
- Let the exhaust and starter cool before beginning. The area can be very hot.
- Keep the key fob away from the vehicle so the starter cannot energize unexpectedly.
- If your Sierra has a skid plate or splash shield, remove and reinstall it carefully.
