🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Remove the interior mirror trim
- Use a trim panel removal tool to carefully pop off the triangular sail panel at the front upper corner of the door.
- If your Sierra has a small speaker or tweeter in that panel, unplug it gently.
- Pull straight out to avoid breaking clips.
Step 2: Disconnect the mirror wiring
- Reach behind the panel and locate the mirror electrical connector.
- Press the locking tab and unplug it by hand.
- If the connector is tight, use a small flat-blade screwdriver to lift the tab carefully.
Step 3: Remove the mirror mounting nuts
- Use a 10mm socket, ratchet, and extension to remove the three mirror nuts.
- Hold the mirror from the outside while removing the last nut so it does not fall.
- Torque on installation: 10 Nm (89 in-lbs)
Step 4: Remove the mirror assembly
- Lift the mirror assembly away from the door.
- Guide the wiring harness through the opening as you remove it.
- Check the foam seal before reinstalling.
Step 5: Install the new mirror assembly
- Feed the wiring through the door opening and position the new mirror on the door.
- Install the three mounting nuts by hand first.
- Use the 10mm socket and torque wrench to tighten to 10 Nm (89 in-lbs).
Step 6: Reconnect and reassemble the trim
- Reconnect the mirror electrical connector until it clicks.
- Reinstall the sail panel by lining up the clips and pressing it firmly into place.
- If any trim clips broke, replace them with the door trim clip set.
Step 7: Test the mirror
- Turn the ignition on and test mirror adjustment, heat, and turn signal if equipped.
- Make sure the mirror is secure and does not move at the base.
✅ After Repair
- Check mirror movement left, right, up, and down.
- If heated, verify the glass warms up after a few minutes.
- If equipped, verify the turn signal and blind-spot indicator work.
- Listen for wind noise on the test drive; a loose seal can cause whistling.
